While rumours of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson coming to Perth next month continue to remain just that, the WWE Elimination Chamber show at Optus on February 24 officially added a huge name over the weekend, CM Punk.

Dubbed ‘The Best in the World’, Punk made waves when he returned to the WWE after a near 10-year absence last November in his hometown of Chicago. Footage of his return, which was a surprise to those in attendance, has racked up over eight million views on YouTube, and is the most viewed and shared moment in WWE history across social media.

“I’m excited to be back in Australia…Let’s go Perth!” Punk said in an Instagram comment following the confirmation of him appearing on the show. It is still unconfirmed what Punk will be doing on the show.

Punk is still yet to have a match on television since returning to the WWE, however he has had two non-televised matches against Dominick Mysterio – son of Legendary wrestler Rey Mysterio.

Elimination Chamber is set to be the only event held by WWE in Australia for 2024, and fans will be able to catch the likes of already-announced stars Cody Rhodes, Australian WWE Heavyweight champion Rhea Ripley, and United States Champion Logan Paul.

“We’re only six or so weeks out now and it’s so exciting to see the growing list of stars confirmed and their storylines starting to take shape in the lead up to our event – the last one before Wrestlemania,” said Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti.

“This event is going to be massive for our State, with thousands of out of state travellers set to descend on our city, pumping valuable dollars into our local economy across our hospitality, tourism and accommodation sectors.”

Hollywood megastar and former WWE Champion The Rock has been rumoured to appear at the event, possibly to have a match against WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

The Rock last wrestled in a WWE ring in 2016, when he defeated Erik Rowan in six seconds.
