Not Yet Perfect

Not Yet Perfect‘s Lucy Aboagye has become a force to be reckoned with – taking a part-time pottery side hustle into a full-blown success story. Workshops are run frequently, and cover everything from hand-building, wheel work, glazing and more. Available as four week courses, date nights or family days suitable for ages 6+, there’s something for everyone.

House of Hobby

House of Hobby have got to be the go-to workshop destination, with dozens of classes available across a huge range of crafty topics. Running for two to three hours, workshops are all-inclusive and accompanied by delicious gourmet grazing boards and free-flowing mimosas to get the vibes going. Upcoming workshops include cookie decorating, fresh flower bouquet arranging, resin earring making, plus sewing for beginners.

One of the benefits of learning a new skill or craft is taking some time to be present and mindful – and there’s no better way to do that than by making something that needs years to complete. On the subject of sewing for beginners – Subi’s Studio Thimbles have oodles of sewing workshops on offer to exercise your making muscles. Hosted by passionate seamstress Olga, you’ll learn sewing skills that will prove useful forever.

If you love the look of ceramics, but aren’t quite ready to take the leap onto the wheel – why not try your hand at some painting? Little Paint Co. host ceramic painting workshops out of their Burswood studio, as well as coming to you! Pick your piece and let your imagination run wild, with vases, platters, mugs and more to choose from, plus over 70 ceramic bisques. Make it a Friday night workshop and you can enjoy a glass or two or prosecco, too! Founded by local ceramics legends Chimerical Homewares, you know you’ll be in safe hands.

Want to keep the ceramics vibes going? We got you! Freo art gallery and furniture studio Amherst Edit is hosting a series of workshops that include how to paint plant pots in a midcentury modern style, as well as mindfully making macrame plant hangers, paper flowers and even furniture restoration.

The Repair Cafe

Repair Cafes are volunteer-run initiatives integral to our communities. Regularly run at various locations around Perth (and around the world!), you can bring in beloved or hard-to-replace household items that need fixing to be looked at under the expert eyes of their team of volunteer repairers. These items can include furniture, bikes, low voltage electrical goods and more – keeping them out of landfill. As well as their regular cafe meetups, they also host workshops – such as the Fremantle Repair Cafe’s upcoming upholstery skills workshop, hosted by Stackwood. And you can’t mention workshops without mentioning Stackwood – the leafy warehouse has a constantly rotating roster of classes to have you slow down and connect with what’s around you. Like Stackwood, Perth City Farm is a stalwart when it comes to slowing down and connecting with some workshops. While all their workshops focus on kind, sustainable living, we’re pretty excited for their upcoming sourdough workshop. The comprehensive course will guide you through cultivating sourdough culture and all the tips and tricks to become a sourdough master yourself.
