Did Perth invent the Sunday Session? While we can’t say for sure, it is fair to say we bloody love a tipple on a Sunday afternoon. Especially as the weather warms up, the sunsets get a little bit hotter, and the silly season really kicks into gear. Here’s a bunch of our faves, including a couple of spicy new ones to consider ruining your Monday for.

Little Bay

It might be one of Perth’s most aesthetically-pleasing breakfast spots, but did you know during summer Little Bay has been rocking a lazy little Sunday arvo session to keep the good times rolling? They’ve got a bangin’ cocktail list including the delightful little number you see below (Spicy Mango Margarita), bloody marys, Passionfruit Mojitos and even pitchers if you really want to wind down the weekend properly. There’s only two Sundays left to go (January 22 and 29), head down between 2 and 5pm for some live music too.

El Grotto

This little black hole on the Scarborough strip is literally that, a black hole – not only because of it’s dark interior/exterior but because the moment you’re inside, you lose cell reception and also your memory after a few Bloody Mary tequila shots (possibly speaking from experience). Rotating through DJs weekly, you don’t know what you’re going to get except a good time and a hangover the next day.

Cottesloe Beach Hotel

One of Perth’s most iconic Sunday sesh spots got a face lift a few years ago and unlike a mid 40s housewife undergoing a midlife crisis by booking in too many visits to get stuff added/removed, this surgery was the perfect touch for Cottesloe Beach Hotel. White and green fill the courtyard so if you’re looking for a Hampton’s inspired vibe for your Sunday sesh, this is where you’ll want to be.

Ocean Beach Hotel

I’d by lying if I haven’t had my fair share of stingers here. Pumping party jams from 4pm and pumping half of Perth in at the same time, the courtyard here gets packed. Once the sun goes down, expect some random appearances on tables warming up the vocal cords to the likes of Daryl Braithwaite before security usher you down. They do a mean burger for $10 that you can get your mouth around at the end of the night.

Scarborough Beach Bar

Being upstairs along the Scarborough strip you may miss it, but don’t because it has THE BEST view of Scarborough Beach hence why I find the name quite fitting. With a balcony that overlooks the strip and the beach, this little treasure just underwent a refurb that has brightened it up tenfold. The feeds are great as well so nab yourself a table on the balcony for unbeatable views.

Si Paradiso

When you think of Sunday sesh, you always assume somewhere by the water but Si Paradiso doesn’t need an ocean sunset to bring you in. With a charming outdoor area and quaint indoor area, it’s suitable for a quiet or loud night. Put it on your list asap if you haven’t frequented, and make sure to dive in to their recently-revamped summer menu – bellisimo!

Rosemount Hotel

Rock’n’roll mainstay the Rosemount Hotel keeps things very vibey on Sunday afternoons in the lush surrounds of their beer garden with the Pure Vibes crew. Expect DJs like Perth disco king Charlie Bucket blending all the best funk, disco and house from 12.30pm, with a dancefloor almost inevitable as the afternoon rolls on.

459 Fitzgerald St, North Perth

The Bird

If you fancy a little boogie and sunshine in the city then The Bird’s beautiful courtyard is your best friend! Every Sunday a different crew usually provides the tunes, but you can pretty much guarantee things will get rowdy deep into those warm, summer nights, all served up to warm and inclusive crowd.

The Left Bank

We’re definitely a sucker for a sunset over the ocean, but when it comes to The Left Bank the river will just have to do! And to be fair, no one seems to mind as The Left Bank’s Sunday Sessions have become proper steamers over the years, its sheltered location, expansive beer garden and huge range of food and booze making it very hard to say no to for many south of the river folk.
