Cottesloe Beach Hotel
One of Perth’s most iconic Sunday sesh spots got a face lift a few years ago and unlike a mid 40s housewife undergoing a midlife crisis by booking in too many visits to get stuff added/removed, this surgery was the perfect touch for Cottesloe Beach Hotel. White and green fill the courtyard so if you’re looking for a Hampton’s inspired vibe for your Sunday sesh, this is where you’ll want to be. Resident Perth babe DJ Miss-T is your captain behind the decks. The food here is pretty phenom as far as ‘pub grub’ goes so if you’re coming with an appetite, it won’t disappoint.
This little black hole on the Scarborough strip is literally that, a black hole – not only because of it’s dark interior/exterior but because the moment you’re inside, you lose cell reception and also your memory after a few Bloody Mary tequila shots (possibly speaking from experience). Rotating through DJs weekly, you don’t know what you’re going to get except a good time and a hangover the next day.
If you live ‘east’ of the Perth like me, you’re not exactly spoilt for choice with Sunday sesh spots but Merrywell certainly do it well, especially with their 1L cocktail jugs. Although not potent, they’re delightfully delicious. The bites aren’t half bad either – I do recommend the sliders. You do get all sorts here crowd wise, but if you’ve got a good crew, they play old school RnB, plus their outdoor area is a vibe and if you’re feeling lucky – you’re only a walk away from a punt!
Ocean Beach Hotel
I’d by lying if I haven’t had my fair share of stingers here. Pumping party jams from 4pm and pumping half of Perth in at the same time, the courtyard here gets packed. Once the sun goes down, expect some random appearances on tables warming up the vocal cords to the likes of Daryl Braithwaite or the other 975318642 belter classics, before security usher you down. They do a mean burger for $10 that you can get your mouth around at the end of the night.
Scarborough Beach Bar
Probably the most walked past gem along the strip (seriously, no one knows it’s there) but it has THE BEST view of Scarborough Beach hence why I find the name quite fitting. With a balcony that overlooks the strip and the beach, this little treasure just underwent a refurb that has brightened it up tenfold. The feeds are great as well so nab yourself a table on the balcony for unbeatable views.
When you think of Sunday sesh, you always assume somewhere by the water but these new kids to the Mount Lawley block have nailed the inner-city spot to be. Should come as no surprise seeing as it’s the same operators as El Grotto. With a charming outdoor area and quaint indoor area, it’s suitable for a quiet or loud night. Put it on your list asap if you haven’t frequented. PS: The ventricina salami with the pane carasau is everything.
The Guildford Hotel
Who ever thought they’d be able to turn one on in a Heritage Listed Site? Not me. Well not one as charming as The Guildford Hotel. It’s more than a pit stop or last stop of a wine tour, it’s a go-to for locals and those who just want to enjoy good quality pub grub and chilled acoustic tunes with their mates over a cold one. Summer Sundays here offer 2ft sangas in three flavours (THE O.G Mega Steak Sanga, THE HOG Mega Pork Sanga and THE CHOOK Mega Chicken Sanga) plus super cool cocktails that come out in a garden pot or in the form of icey poles. There’s even pupsicles for your pooch!
The Peach Pit
Sundays at this new hot spot is bannered under ‘Surf Club’. Surf Club is like those cool kids who just love a frothy with their mates post surf sesh on a Sunday arvo when the sun is just cooling down but hasn’t lost the heat. Some of Perth’s hottest DJs setting vibes from 4pm with party jams, you can either escalate here or well, escalate here. With wicked cocktails such as the Peche Peche or my personal fav, Miami Splice and $15 jugs of any beer and cider on tap – you can’t really go wrong. If you’re peckish there’s $15 pizzas all day!
