Christmas is a great time to show your loved ones how much you care, but if you’re not careful your gift can do more harm than good. Christmas is a notorious time for generating excess amount of waste that ends up in landfill, never to be used again.
It’s important to be mindful of the gifts you are giving. Some of the ways you can do this is; making sure it’s something they will want long term, purchase good quality items that will last a long time (no disposable gifts), wrap gifts in bags that can be re-used or recyclable material.
Another way to shop smart this Christmas is to buy local. Upcycle gifts from swap meets or find gifts that are made from small scale suppliers. This way you are supporting local small business as opposed to giving your money to the retail giants, where your money means nothing.
Here is a list of places to help you find gifts that are good for your loved ones, good for the environment and good for local vendors.
