A glimpse of the glimmer of gold-leaf awakened our inner magpies as we strolled down Brisbane Street recently.

Hang on, what does that sign say…? “Cold Drinks, Warm Service, Hot Bartenders”?!

It seems that there’s plenty to like at Bar Love.

Nestled in that sweet spot that’s kind of Northbridge, kind of Highgate – you know, that Golden Choice, Wines of While, Northbridge Hotel kind of territory – Bar Love is bringing a taste of kitsch, retro fun to the space previously home to Harvison Gallery.

Bar Love Northbridge

The inclusive venue is the latest from two faces you’re certain to have seen behind the bar: Pippa Canavan and Murray Walsh. Combined, they’ve got over 25 years’ experience slinging drinks, along with a fair few shiny best-of-the-best bartending awards. (Canavan is also the co-founder of Mix Haus, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to empowering women in hospitality.)

Becoming fast friends at Northbridge favourite Mechanic’s Institute, they’ll be unleashing their talents on a menu of maximalist cocktails that merge world-class technique with plenty of fun.

And when you see the bold and playful interior – think tangerine, pink and red stripes across the room, mirror ball panthers, velvet couches – we think a maximalist approach to mixology is only right!

Some signatures include a Peaches & Cream Negroni and the Vamos Martini, the heart-thumping lovechild of an espresso martini and a Mont Blanc layered coffee. You’ll also be able to sip on a rotating tap cocktail from locals Idle Hands Drinks Co., as well as the curated wine list and select tap pours from Shelter and guest breweries.

Feeling peckish? Snacks are care of the Peasants Paradice kitchen next door, with the lovely Dwight Alexander serving up a menu of bar bites with his trademark modern African flavours.

Bar Love is located at 195 Brisbane St, Northbridge, and is now open Tuesday-Saturday.
