We’re calling it a French Revolution: Perth has gained yet another French eatery with the recent opening of Beaufort Street’s Madeleine.

While other newcomers La Lune and La Bastide have a focus on bistro dinner with continental-style breakfasts, Madeleine is (at least for now) focusing all of its attention on their French-inspired breakfast and brunch.

Working with premium local producers (Little Farm Eggs, Sally’s Micro Bakery, Postcode Honey, Crafty Meats) and with a background in Michelin-starred eateries, these brunches are certainly a decadent treat, with plenty of classics on offer.

Croque monsieur and madames, eggs benedictine with Paris ham, or berry-topped French toast will all start the morning off right, although the egg soldiers – œufs à la coque, bien sûr – served alongside ham, aged comté, sourdough and mustard butter, have a particularly laissez-faire approach we find hard to resist.

In the cabinet, you’ll also find a selection of baked goods – croissants, escargots and chocolate twists are alongside more grab-and-go options, like bagels, brioche breakfast rolls or ham and cheese croissants.
