Have You Tried? The Crab Vol-Au-Vent At Our New East Freo Fave, La Lune
We’re very blessed over here at Perth Is OK! To put it simply, we get to enjoy a whole lot of deliciousness on a regular basis. But sometimes you have a little morsel, a bite, a taste… And it keeps you up at night. We want to let you know about those dishes we’ve had lately that haven’t left our brains since, and whether you’ve had a chance to enjoy them. And thus: Have You Tried?
La Lune – one of our favourite openings of 2022 so far – has been living up to its so-Frenchy-so-chic reputation. Perched on East Freo’s very charming George Street, we can think of nowhere more suited to an equally charming French bistro… Excusez-moi, bistrot Français. Timeless, a little bit nostalgic, yet centred in a modern way of dining.
And while there’s plenty on offer to justify a visit au plus vite (the steak frites! The octopus terrine! The rosti with smoked salmon roe and cultured cream!), since we tried it this week we’ve been dreaming all about the vol-au-vent.
Laminations upon laminations of buttery puff pastry hold a combination of swimmer crab and celery remoulade, bejewelled with salmon roe and chives. Creamy, light, crispy, savoury and yet delicately sweet – we’re finding it hard to imagine a more welcome start to a meal.
La Lune is located at 73 George Street, East Fremantle.
