We’ve gone a little burger crazy lately at Perth Is OK, and a new Freo joint that kept coming up for us is HomeRun Burgers – a gourmet burger bar on Market Street. It joins a growing chorus of great burg spots in the south, with owner/partners Loic Munso and Tarik Voirin looking to bring some new and unique flavours to the scene, aided by a chef with experience in 2-star Michelin Restaurants. “We have noticed people are demanding better quality and different flavours so we created HomeRun to offer a rustic, yet decadent burger experience,” explains Voirin.

Munso and Voirin set out on their journey with a little less hospo experience than some, but with a simple mission to continuously improve their offerings, promote other local businesses and provide a customer service experience that’s second to none. “It’s the pleasure of bringing happiness to people’s lives and the pleasure of building a dedicated team [and] working with a very experienced and talented chef… It is also the pleasure of buying everything fresh every day, making as much as we can in-house. It’s also about great service, about making sure customers not only have great food, but also a great experience.”

Helping this is their open plan kitchen style – one that helps enhance a sense of community when you eat at HomeRun (kids eat free on Thursdays), and definitely warranting repeat visits. Which is all well and good, but what about the food?!

Their menu focuses on doing a few things very right, rather than overloading you with options, their staple HomeRun Cheeseburger and “Outta The Park” Chicken burgers really setting the tone. From there you can level up with the beast mode Baltimore Chop (beef patty, melted cheese, onion rings, bacon, smokey BBQ & HomeRun sauce and lettuce) or Knee Buckler (beef patty, melted cheese, runny egg, hash brown, smokey bbq & chipotle mayo, lettuce and grilled onions).

The real hero for us though is the Ribbie’N’Roobharb, featuring their signature fried chicken (some of the best in town) with crispy bacon, onion rings, lettuce, red onions and ranch & BBQ sauce. Not to mention their regular burgers of the month, a chance for them to experiment while you feast on the results. Last month’s The Chief (papadum crumbed juicy fried chicken, melted cheese, red and green chilis and coconut yoghurt slaw) has been a roaring success.

Throw in some wings, fried chicken tenders, an excellent local craft beer selection and a few naughty boozy shakes and HomeRun really knocks it out of the park. Don’t take our word for it though, head down for yourself from 11.30am-9pm 7 days a week, or they do deliveries/takeaways until 11.30pm on weeknights and 1.30am (!) on the weekends.
