Lums For Local Chums: Subi Has A New Wine Bar From The Team Behind Bark
Being an eagle-eyed and journalistic-minded team, when we saw a delightfully-designed poster go up in an empty Subi shopfront… We were mighty intrigued.
When we realised it was going to be a wine bar, we were pleased. When we heard it would be from the crew at Bark? The excitement hit the roof!
Soft opening from this afternoon, Lums Wine Bar will be bringing a tidy range of artisanal wines to their charming, heritage Hay Street shopfront – just 300m down the road from Bark.
“We’re trying to create a wine list for the people… with a focus on small, boutique producers, there’s a good balance between interesting new school wine and some classic Euro drops,” say owners Mitch Jenkin, Lee Hutchings and Oliver Wasse, with new addition Ashley Allen (pictured).

As well as wines, share a few plates with mates – the soft opening menu features a few tapas-style bites, cheese and charcuterie, with the menu and wine list expanding in September.
You can enjoy all this in the two stories of the welcoming 1920s terrace – originally home to the EA Lums Grocery & General Store, the recent updates have retained the building’s quirks and character – or head out to the covered courtyard out the back or the almost-ready-for-a-vino parklet out the front.
“We’ve built such a wonderful little community of locals at Bark and Subiaco really feels like home now. It’s such an honour to be bringing a little piece of local history back to life – we can’t wait to welcome all our neighbours over for a drink.”
