New taqueria Frida Mexicana has opened in Freo

Earlier this month the streets of Freo said ¡hola! to a colourful new taqueria.

Inspired by the vibrant artwork of Frida Kahlo, Market Street’s Frida Mexicana is all about equally vibrant flavours.

We’re talking street-style tacos filled with beef and pork carnitas, agave-roasted pumpkin, crispy eggplant and Baja fish, we’re talking loaded burritos, we’re talking tender slow-cooked beef in a richly dark mole poblano.

You’ll also find plenty of south-of-the-border style snacks on offer – including the always-popular elote, agave and chipotle-glazed wings, plenty of tostadas and delicate, dainty flautas: crispy, fried tortillas rolled with your choice of pork or pumpkin.

From Friday to Sunday, you’ll be able to salve sore heads with a Mexican brunch offering that includes poached egg-topped chimichangas (hubba hubba), bacon and egg tacos and even an agave-drizzled stack of pancakes.
