North Bird flies south, transforming into Nashville fried chicken spot, South Bird
Just 12 days after their final service as North Bird, the verdant 175 William Street venue has been transformed into Nashville hot chicken joint, South Bird.
The venture is inspired by owners Kabir Ramasary and Braeden La Marr’s love of fried chicken and spice, collaborating with some of Perth’s best hospitality minds to bring their vision to life – including accomplished Perth chef and hospitality consultant Frankie Dawson (North Bird, Besk Bivouac, La Madonna Nera).
Typified by its intensely fiery, chilli-laden coating, Nashville’s take on fried chicken is traditionally served alongside pickles and white bread – but you’ll also be able to dive into a selection of Southern classics that includes mac and cheese, hush puppies, crack salt fries, slaw, buffalo cauliflower and potato with gravy.
On the drinks front, esteemed sommelier Daisy Case has hand-picked a selection of fried chicken-friendly natural wine to complement the homemade iced tea, tap beer and signature cocktails that will also be on offer.
“Launching South Bird has been a dream years in the making but it was a case of the right opportunity presenting itself at the right time,” explained Ramasary.
“We want people to come for the fried chicken and stay because they are having a good time – it’s all about the experience.”

“Like The Bird and Ezra Pound, music will be a key component of South Bird and the soundtrack will weave in jazz, blues and hip hop.”
“We wanted something a little playful, and a little serious, and a little naughty,” adds La Marr.
“Our vision is to provide the classic comforting and confronting flavours of the south, with something delicious to wash it down with.”
“We are still refining the menu continuously so it challenges and comforts in equal measure. And that’s really what the whole South Bird brand comes down to – it’s fun and earnest, with a hint of mischief and spice.”
South Bird will be located at 175 William Street, Northbridge, and is scheduled to open on April 15.
