There’s nothing that merges Italian and Australian culture more neatly than aperitivo – and who wouldn’t be on board with a reasonably priced afternoon nibble and drink?

Get a taste of Italy right here in WA, with some of Perth’s best aperitivo hours:

Volare

Volare’s riff on aperitivo merges the Italian custom with the beloved tradition of bottomless brunch – can you think of a more tempting combo? Every weekend, Volare’s All Aboard offers a selection of bougie Euro-inspired snacks (think lobster-filled bomboloni, pâté cannoli or bone marrow carne cruda atop garlicky focaccia), plus free flowing spritzes, mimosas, bellinis and bubbles, as well as Gonzo Vino wines and Peroni Red.

Vinotto

This Swanbourne bar may be bite-sized, but it certainly packs a punch. While we loved to spend long, balmy evenings indulging in Vinotto’s more substantial offerings, who could resist popping past and watching the world go by while enjoying their afternoon aperitivo? $10 drinks, $5 snacks, 3-5PM. Now that’s some maths we can get around.

Corvo

Fly into Claremont’s Corvo for their enticing aperitivo hour. Their Euro-leaning menu is taken well and truly to the Continent for their afternoon offerings, with not just temptingly-priced spritzes and summer cocktails, but an equally tempting, equally wallet-friendly selection of snacks – think oysters, pan con tomate, zucchini fritti, prosciutto and melon, and more.

Jetty

Soak up the sunset and waterfront views with Jetty’s latest aperitivo offering! Every Wednesday and Thursday between 4 and 6PM, you can dive into some refreshing drink specials (including Spritzes, Negronis and more!) plus half price bar snacks. Hump day who?

Santini

Pretend you’re on a seductive Roman holiday with a visit to Santini’s adjoining bar, tucked away on the first floor of QT Perth. Welcoming the evening, between 5 and 6PM Monday to Saturday you’ll be able to indulge in Santini’s signature aperitivo with a selection of bar bites that includes ceviche cannoli, lamb kofta and freshly shucked oysters, alongside a refreshing selection of beverages – although when it comes to aperitivo we’ll take a lot of convincing to stray from the classic Aperol spritz.

Copia

Another aperitivo hour that proves you don’t have to leave the city for some stunning snack action! Treat yourself after a hard day at work in the concrete jungle with Copia’s latest summer offering: $12 spritzes every Thursday and Friday between 3 and 5PM (Spritz O’Clock!), plus a schmick selection of small plates including $3 freshly shucked oysters every Friday!

Spritz Spizzicheria

Is there any greater shrine to Perth’s favourite cocktail than the glowing, orange monument that is Spritz Spizzicheria? Their menu takes you from a long afternoon of cocktails and nibbles to more substantial pasta, pizza and mains – or take advantage of their aperitivo time: two hours of drinking and snacking specials (Italy’s best recent export?). We’re starting to think Mount Hawthorn is punching above its weight in culinary options.

Garum

An afternoon in Garum’s alfresco, amongst the heritage architecture and climbing vines – well, that’s nothing to sniff at. But add an aperitivo into the mix? We can hardly contain ourselves. Head to Hibernian Place between 4.30 and 6pm, Wednesday to Saturday for half price drinks and bar snacks – including arancini, deep-fried mozzarella, salumi and pasta.

La Madonna Nera

What was that we were saying about Mount Hawthorn? Having the misfortune of opening just before COVID hasn’t slowed La Madonna Nera down one bit, offering one of the most delightfully intimate dining experiences Perth has to offer. If you’re a fan of carefully curated, Italian-sourced wines then you’ll find plenty of friends at La Madonna Nera, and they’ll be happy to take you for a journey all over the boot-shaped peninsula. If you’re there between 4 and 6 on Fridays and Saturdays, you’ll be able to enjoy some seriously good snacks and cocktails at seriously low prices – like the flavour bomb potato millefoglie with fonduta and cumquat for only six bucks.
