We’ve rounded up Perth’s bougiest degustations, but what if you don’t want to remortgage your house to afford a meal? You can still enjoy the finer things in life – and we’ve found a selection of Perth’s best degustation and tasting menus that (as of publication) are under $90 a head. Bon appetit!

Marumo

Arguably Perth’s most sought-after booking, Marumo’s seven-course omakase has become the stuff of legend. A three-hour experience of Japanese flavours and seasonal ingredients in the itty-bitty, minimalist dining room, which itself is tucked away in an otherwise unremarkable Nedlands shopping village. With bookings released only a few times a year and snapped up eagerly, this is an evening to plan well in advance for.

Le Rebelle

We can’t get enough of Le Rebelle‘s modern take on traditional bistro fare, with every dish on their tight menu an absolute knockout. When it’s all this good, why not let them take the lead? Their $85/head “Carte Blanche” menu will take you through the menu’s highlights – all of which are guaranteed to be delicious.

Daph’s

This pint-sized Leederville eatery has been a slow-burn success story, quietly building a solid reputation as one of Perth’s best eateries. Showcasing local and seasonal produce, the Daph’s six-course degustation menu changes with almost head-spinning frequency – the June iteration features coal-roasted black onyx flank steak with smoked beef fat chimichurri, as well as fire-seared squid, roasted fennel and chorizo with harissa aioli, and a croissant butter pudding with toasted almond ice cream and amaretto syrup that’s perfect for cold winter nights.

UMA

Perth meets Peru is UMA’s modus operandi – essentially meaning you’re getting stunning dishes straight outta Peru, brought to life almost entirely with exceptional WA produce. Executive Chef Xerxes Bodhanwala combines incredibly bold, vibrant flavours across a variety of dishes including some untouchable ceviche options, grilled octopus, mouthwatering Anticuchos (Pardoo wagyu rump skewers), twice cooked Yucas and more. Just make sure you kick things off with a pisco sour!

Post

If you want to feel bougie, just head to the State Buildings – and Italian osteria Post is certainly befitting of its luxe surrounds. Their $89 “Degustazione” will treat you to a delectable selection of their greatest hits: from veal battuta topped with shaved egg yolk and crispy saffron and Tallegio arancini to an audaciously flavourful chicken diavolo.

Miki’s Open Kitchen

If you’ve visited Margs anytime during the last few years, you can’t have escaped the emphatic calls that “You have to go to Miki’s!” The Japanese eatery offers three levels of degustation experience – including a kid-friendly option so the whole family can enjoy the action. Specialising in tempura, the menu balances Japanese traditionalism with a relaxed Australian attitude and premium south-west produce.

Ichirin

If you’d stumbled upon Leeming’s family-run Ichirin for a quick lunch on the go, it would be easy to file it away as a particularly good, neighbourhood shopping strip takeaway joint. And while the casual lunch fare is, to give credit where credit’s due, extremely well executed – you’d be doing both Ichirin, and yourself, a disservice: the omakase is where it’s at. When it comes to seafood, chef Shiro Okuchi knows his stuff, and the chef’s choice omakase menu is the perfect way to showcase the union of Japanese culinary excellence and West Australian produce.

Rustico

Not only is Rustico one of the best value degustations in the entire State, it’s just one of the best quality degustations going around. Both of their venues (in Rockingham and down south) rock a $75pp 5-course shared tapas degustation that is just about untouchable as far as we’re concerned. And you can add a gin, wine or beer tasting for just an extra $35pp! Having indulged in a few of these over the journey, we can safely say you’ll leave feeling satisfied on all fronts.
