Perth’s best gluten free bakeries
The Perth is OK! team are no strangers to dietary requirements – and while there aren’t all that many of us, an intolerance to gluten seems to run rampant amongst our ranks.
(And that’s without mentioning the practically countless spouses, siblings and friends that are in the same boat!)
We think everyone should be able to enjoy a tasty baked treat though – so we’ve hunted down the best gluten free bakeries around Perth for you to check out.
Dough Street
Perth’s newest gluten free bakery, Dough Street has become a fast favourite since opening at the end of June – with one of our colleagues making her way to the Balcatta bakery multiple times in one week for their fluffy focaccia sandwiches. As well as focaccia, the team at Dough Street are also serving up an impressive range of baked goods that will cure the cravings of any gluten-free fiend – like gooey cinnamon buns, flakey, golden croissants, pain au chocolat and danishes, decadent cookies and the viral croissant-cookie hybrid, the crookie.

Strange Grains
No one should need any introduction to Strange Grains, the award-winning Shenton Park bakery who have been leading the charge in gluten free bread since starting out at local farmers markets back in 2009. These artisan breads hold their own against their wheaten counterparts, and are made with no wheat, gluten, soy, corn, eggs, dairy, gums or fillers, and in a dedicated gluten free environment – impressive!

Chris’ Kitchen
Run by chef Chris Anca, community-minded Chris’ Kitchen creates an amazing array of both gluten free and plant-based desserts that will have any sweet tooth salivating. Tucked off Great Eastern Highway, Darringtons might not boast the most glamorous location… But these guys knock it right outta the park with their stellar range of not just gluten free, but totally vegan baked goods. From golden, flakey apple strudel bursting with vegan custard and whipped cream, to a matcha custard and strawberry cream donut… Whatever you have a hankering for, these guys have got the goods.

Prague Bakery
They may not be the most active bakery when it comes to social media on this list, but Prague Bakery are renowned for their gluten free offering. While they do serve gluten-y goods as well, their gluten free offering is definitely worth a shout-out. Given they share their kitchen with gluten-based goods, let the staff know ahead of ordering if you are coeliac!

Panna Artisan (temporarily closed)
While they’re currently on hiatus (as of July 2024), we still had to give Panna Artisan a shoutout. This small-batch, artisanal bakery specialises in slow ferment sourdough – i.e. some of the best gluten free loaves you’ll ever eat. As well as loaves, Panna’s cakes, quiches, scrolls and other goodies are well worth hunting down – plus, they’re also completely free from eggs, dairy, corn, soy, added sugar, preservatives and additives, so as well as being gluten free, they’re perfect for plant-based pals. Definitely keep an eye out for their reopening!
