Like many of you, we’re pinching whatever pennies we can as cost-of-living prices soar and for a lot of people, that starts with the weekly shop.

One of the best ways to save a few dollars, reduce our environmental impact and connect with your local community is to avoid the big supermarket chains and hit up a local growers’ market.

Wondering where to start? We’ve linked up with customer-owned, proudly WA-based, P&N Bank to help you find some of the best growers’ markets around Perth. A genuine banking alternative to the ‘Big Four’, P&N Bank has branches all across WA, an award-winning Perth-based customer contact centre, and home lending specialists who can come to you to help you achieve your financial goals.

And you can kick start reaching your financial goals by hitting up some of Perth’s best grower’s markets, for your weekly shop:

Golden Choice Perth Fresh Market

Across two locations in Subiaco and Northbridge, Golden Choice has built an unbeatable reputation in recent years for reliability when it comes to fresh, seasonal produce and super-competitive prices. You’ll also find a fantastic array of condiments, spices and more that are hard to find elsewhere, and unlike some of the once-a-week markets on this list, Golden Choice is open seven days a week.

Fruit n Vegies R Us

Grocery delivery has exploded in popularity in recent years, and whether you’re time poor or have mobility issues, it makes a lot of sense. But did you know you can avoid big supermarkets and have your groceries delivered from local sources? Fruit n Vegies R Us is one such service – a small, WA-based, family-run business specialising in fresh fruit and veggies direct to your door. Not only is it competitively priced, it’s built up relationships with some of the state’s best growers, ensuring you’re always getting the best of the best.

Galati & Sons

Fremantle is flush with many an iconic institution, and Galati & Sons on Wray Ave is up there with the best of ‘em! The family-owned gourmet Italian deli has been the Freo local’s go-to for fresh produce, gourmet meats and cheeses, and continental foods since 1958. With all the money you save on the incredibly well-priced produce (especially from the weekly specials truck out front), perhaps you can reward yourself with one of their famed Conti rolls.

Stirling Farmers’ Market

Running at the City of Stirling Administration Building from 7.30-11.30am on Sundays, what makes this market special is that it only sells local products direct from the grower/maker. A Rotary of Karrinyup project, the Stirling Farmers’ Market offers one free stall per week to not-for-profit or community groups, which is an amazing opportunity to promote their business. Every week, you’ll find amazing local produce, friendly faces, and the knowledge that all funds raised in the running of the market go back into the community.

25 Cedric Street, Stirling

Mount Claremont Farmers’ Market

One of the longest running community markets in Perth, Mount Claremont Farmers’ Market has a diverse group of stalls that will be sure to please any market aficionado. Organic, farmer-direct produce, artisan bakers, unique local producers, not to mention clothing, homewares and cleaning supplies are just the start. They run rain, hail or shine, so why not pop by and stock up with something special for the weekend? They’re open from 7.30am until 11.30am every Saturday.

Kyilla Community Farmers’ Market

Started by the Kyilla Primary School’s P&C Association as a community engagement initiative, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to Kyilla’s selection of fresh produce, not to mention their tempting breakfast options! In fact, we dare say the only danger with heading to Kyilla on a Saturday morning (8-11.30am) is the delicious array of food stalls that pull up each week – so stay strong, and make sure you save at one of the many grocers on site first!

Kyilla Park, Clieveden Street, North Perth

Subi Farmers’ Markets

With a balanced mix of food stalls, fresh produce, artisanal goods and handcrafted wares, Subi Farmers’ Market is the perfect entry point for grower’s market newbies. Every Saturday morning from 8am-12pm you can cop a Los Amigos breakfast burrito, Tom the Greek’s spanakopita or even a sweet treat from Louis Boeglin Pâtisserie. Peruse some of the finest fruits, veg and artisanal products our state has to offer for your Saturday night dinner party, while Loafers Artisan, the Woodfired Baker and Wild Bakery will hook you up with all of your baked goods needs.
