The best Mexican restaurants in Perth
Got a hankering for a Mexican feast, or perhaps a tequila or five?
Perth’s Mexican restaurants and bars have only got better and better, whether you’re looking for low-key Tex-Mex or a refreshing coastal cocktail. The fun doesn’t end her though, if you fancy a taco you can also check out the best taco spots in Perth.
El Taco Guru
Some of Perth’s best tacos are in… A bottle shop? Sometimes the most delicious things appear in the most unexpected places! El Taco Guru has taken up residency every Friday arvo at Mane Specialist Bottleshop’s Osborne Park outpost, serving up some legit tacos – if you’re lucky, you’ll also be able to snag a tamale or two from Malena’s Kitchen while you’re there! (Not to mention a delicious tipple to take home.)
3/392 Scarborough Beach Road, Osborne Park
El Grotto
The team behind this Scarborough haunt care so much about their tequila offerings, they regularly make trips to Mexico to source only the finest (and rarest) varieties. El Grotto has evolved over the journey, from it’s wild party stylings of yesteryear to an increased focus on becoming a relaxed-yet-fun seaside bar with delicious food and cocktails. Of course you can still have a boogie later, and you might need it after working your way through their epic menu.

Tommy Tacos
Tomas Bidois brought his humble taco pop-up to its Highgate laneway home in 2023 and it’s been a hit ever since. A must-visit for any taco enthusiasts, Tommy Tacos is an especially great spot to bring your gluten free friends as Bidois’ authentic Mexican cooking techniques means the entire menu is gluten free!
448 Beaufort Street, Highgate
La Cholita
Another popular and long-standing Mexican haunt along William Street, La Cholita has been slinging terrific tacos, gorgeous guac and succulent sangrias since way back in 2011. Their tequila and mezcal offerings are plentiful (like in the hundreds), so make sure you stock up on plenty tostadas and quesadillas while you imbibe.
279 William Street, Northbridge
La Cabaña
From the man behind one of our all time favourite food trucks, Eat No Evil, La Cabaña soared into our hearts and our summers from the get-go. And while it should come as no surprise their food menu is delish, their tequila and mezcal offerings also pack a punch. With most of the menu dairy, gluten and nut-free, plus with heaps of vegan options as well, it’s the perfect spot for a big group of mates. They also offer a Bottomless Mexican Brunch option on Saturday and Sundays from 10am-12pm, the only trick is if you can not end up spending the rest of the day in their beautiful South Freo courtyard!
400 South Terrace, South Fremantle
el PÚBLICO
Back a few years ago when Perth was having a real Mexican moment, el Público was ahead of its time – and the fact it still stands strong along Beaufort Street is testament to its quality. Along with a being a fun, rowdy place to eat some delicious food, their extensive bar (with the iconic neon donkey!) is backed with staff who know what they’re talking about. Just make sure to order the beef mogo mogo balls – one of our favourites!
511 Beaufort Street, Highgate
Jalisco
One of Perth’s newer kids on the block, Jalisco is serving up some seriously good tacos and tequila – follow the red neon skull and you will find your Mexican heaven. Their margarita game is un-touched, but its their tacos that’ll have you coming back again and again, especially on Taco Tuesday!
197b Scarborough Beach Road, Doubleview
Don Birria
Succulent beef between a rich, consommé-dipped tortilla? Gooey, toasty quesadillas? Our mouths are watering just thinking about it. Popping up at Scarborough Sunset Markets and the Scarborough Farmers Market, Don Birria has been the word on everyone’s lips since opening in 2020. Two years later, they expanded to their Mount Lawley location – so it’s even easier to get your hands on that succulent goodness.
3/80 Walcott Street, Mount Lawley
La Condesa
We were waiting with bated breath for La Condesa’s opening, plighted with a series of bureaucratic delays – but it was worth it for the casual, coastal eats from veteran operator Clint Nolan. Tulum-via-LA is the venue’s aesthetic, with a menu that leans more easy-breezy than its grungier sister venue, La Cholita. Don’t panic though: it goes just as well with a spicy marg!
483 Hay Street, Subiaco
Caballitos
If you’ve already eaten and are looking to party, then jump on your donkey and head to Caballitos in the CBD – the only late night Mexican bar in Perth. With 200+ tequilas and mezcals to go with cervezas, vino and some insane cocktails (double margarita with a Corona thrown in, anyone?), we get the feeling you’re gonna find that sneaky pole on the dancefloor irresistible soon enough… Not to mention a couple of end of the night tacos.
26 Queen Street, Perth
Al Pastor Taqueria & Tequila Bar
There is tequila to be downed and tacos to be eaten at Al Pastor Taqueria in the Sunshine Harvester Works. From the team behind RoyAl’s, they’ve made sure to put as much love and attention into their tacos and tequila as they have done burgers, with some crazy specials on most nights as well.

On The Border
You don’t need to head south to get a Mexican feast – in fact, you’re better off heading north to Mindarie! On The Border is serving up a SoCal-inspired Mexican menu which is all about having a good ol’ time: think chimichangas, mix ‘n match tacos and plenty of cocktails to go with.
3/28 Anchorage Drive, Mindarie
Mexican Kitchen
Not to be outdone in the deep south, Mexican Kitchen has been bringing the party vibes to the cappuccino strip since 1975. A little more family-friendly than the above options, Mexican Kitchen is a great way to introduce kids big and small to the tastes of old-school Tex-Mex… But if you’re a big kid, make sure you ask for their huge tequila menu!
