It’s that time of year once again. The ground is damp, the leaves have fallen and the dogs are on the hunt for those elusive black treasures that hide beneath the south-western orchards.

It’s truffle season, and Perth’s bars and restaurants are celebrating in big ways – these are the local eateries leading the charge and taking truffle season to the next level.

Servo

Running as part of Nom Nom festival, Servo is teaming up with Margaret River’s Battles Wine for a one night only, indulgent evening centred around truffles on Wednesday, July 31. Think truffle and duck ravioli, or truffle salt-crusted Stirling Ranges beef striploin – all perfectly paired with Battles drops. Get your tickets here.

The Heritage Wine Bar

This old-world CBD bistro is a favourite for a more sophisticated city lunch, and The Heritage is dialling up the French influence to 11 this winter – celebrating not just the welcome arrival of truffle season but the upcoming Paris Olympics. The French Inspired Chef’s Menu, created by Executive Chef Guillaume Groult, is available all day through July and August, and features decadent French classics topped with a healthy shower of truffle shavings.

Kanpai Yakiniku

This Vic Park JBBQ hotspot is going truffle-crazy this season, serving up not just a dish or two but an impressive menu that features plates like truffle and cheese-stuffed menchi katsu to delicate truffle chawanmushi, or a truffle-topped yukke… Now that’s sure to have any truffle-lover in rhapsody.

Re Store

As well as stocking the hunks of black gold ready for you to take home, Re Store Leederville has launched a special truffle roll, available for July. Their signature rolls are stuffed with Milano salami, provolone cheese, artichoke and drizzles of truffle cream. Bellissimo!

Le Rebelle

One of our date night faves, chic French bistro Le Rebelle is welcoming truffle season with a mushroom and feta cigar, served with French onion dip and topped with a decadent snowfall of black truffle.

Le Vietnam

Each truffle season, the people of Perth wait with bated breath for the return of Le Vietnam’s banger truffle banh mi. As well as truffles, this one’s packed with mushrooms and the classic banh mi veg – plus, it’s also vegan, so everyone can get involved!

Vinotto

We’re itching for any excuse to dive into Swanbourne wine bar Vinotto’s luscious bowl of potato gnocchi with truffle and parmesan sauce, topped with a mountain of black truffle shavings.

Bib & Tucker

Bib & Tucker’s indulgent lobster frites was already the balm to cold winter nights, but the addition of truffles into the mix? Absolutely next level. Available on Thursday nights only and just for July, the beachside bistro is serving up woodfired Western Rock lobster with a generous mountain of hand-cut frites with a Manjimup truffle béarnaise and a spinkling of truffle salt. (Make sure to book your truff lobby in advance!)

Butter Crumbs

There’s a reason why Butter Crumbs have been a cult hit since their early days at the Mount Claremont Farmers’ Market. Known for their iconic Basque cheesecakes, they’ve been slinging an absolute home run of a truffle cheesecake, topped with Perigord truffle-infused Chantilly cream, caramelised hazelnuts, citrus compote and extra shavings of truffle for good measure. This is a “here for a good time, not a long time” proposition, though – they’re already planning their next decadent truffle special. Not much of a sweet tooth? They’re also serving up their next-level truffle-loaded mushroom pies alongside some other truffle-y specials.

Peter’s Cà Phê

We’ll happily follow bánh mì-slinging food truck Peter’s Cà Phê all over town, but their decadent truffle-loaded bánh mì makes it a total no-brainer. We’re particularly enamoured by the truffle-topped crispy roast pork bánh mì, but these legends will shave truffle onto just about any of their dishes for a very reasonable fee. Wash it all down with a Viet iced coffee and you’re in business!

Madeleine on Beaufort

This sweet French bistro will be turning up the charm with a sumptuous truffle-laden three-course degustation, available at Madeleine throughout the season. The menu features decadent dishes like scallops with a Jerusalem artichoke velouté, steak Diane and Crêpes Suzette with truffle caramel. Plus, they’re offering a nifty discount to dine during the week – not too shabby!

Santini

This slick CBD Italian eatery is teaming up with top-tier truffle purveyors Truffle Hill for a one-off culinary journey – accompanied by the esteemed drops of Leeuwin Estate. Guided by Santini’s Culinary Creative Lead Chef Nic Wood and Dan Gedge from Leeuwin Estate, the five courses will immerse you in the earthy flavours of the local delicacy, with dishes including spanner crab raviolo with burnt butter and truffle or wood-fired lamb rump with truffle jus. It’s going down July 18, grab your tickets here.

Testun

These audacious nuovo kids on the block are still bringing big, tongue-in-cheek attitude and even bigger flavours with their anti-purist approach to Italian cuisine.

Two years ago, Testun blew all of our collective minds with a stracciatella, truffle and Vegemite toastie – this year they getting ready to bring back last year’s banger: keeping the truffle and Vegemite vibes but whipping up a pasta special instead.

“We use Vegemite, porcini and shiitake to make a broth that we then emulsify with Vegemite, truffle and maple butter, and finish with fresh Splendid Valley truffle.”

“The Vegemite replaces anchovy from the classic Italian combo of butter & anchovy to provide a nice savoury backbone for the dish that actually works super well. It’s just a deeply earthy flavour bomb of a dish!”

Fleur

We thought the arrival of Fleur’s Friday lunch service was exciting enough – but when they announced their brand new “Fleurburger” to celebrate? Hoo-boy – we couldn’t rearrange our Friday meetings fast enough. The burger features a house-made smoked beef fat patty, smoked gribiche and farmhouse cheddar on a shokupan bun. Served with frites (bien sûr!), you’ll also have the option to add shaved Manjimup truffle or caviar (if the boss is paying, that is).

Ludo

The subterranean South Perth bistro has joined forces with Coomer Truffles for a truffle-infused feast that will last all season long! Showcasing the Manjimup producer’s indulgent, aromatic truffles, Ludo’s set menu includes enticing share plates like lobster and truffle-infused omelette, Wagin duck and pork sausage toped with shaved truffle, plus your choice of mains like pink snapper with truffle beurre blanc or chateaubriand with truffle infused pomme fondant. Decadent!

Short Order

It’s the simple things that make life worth living, and that certainly includes a burger, fries and refreshing shake. Short Order have been knocking it out of the park at both their Freo and Hay street locations with their authentic take on American burgers and retro burger culture. The firmly enforced K.I.S.S policy applies to all burgs − beef, chicken and vege − with single or double patty options available and usually only a couple of accompaniments to let their simple combos sing.

For truffle season this year, Short Order have decide to bring back their mind-blowingly popular creation from previous years: a southern fried chicken burger topped with shaved Manjimup truffle and finished with whipped Pepe Saya truffle butter.

Pardon My French

Sure, truffle and some comfortingly indulgent, savoury dishes are a surefire hit – but the sweet side of life can definitely benefit from a truffle shaving or two! The mastermind behind home bakery Pardon My French, Yeelin Li’s cult-status canelés have become the stuff of legend – and during truffle season, the self-taught baker adds a decadent twist to the treat with the addition of fresh black Coomer truffles and honey whiskey.

Lamont’s Bishops House

We normally have to wait for our bougiest friends to get married to enjoy the luxe surrounds of Lamont’s CBD outpost, but you can also soak up the sumptuous vibes, cosy fireplaces and decadent dining during this year’s truffle season! Taking place over six winter nights between June 8 and July 27, each of Lamont’s truffle nights boasts its own bespoke truffle-laden menu created by executive chef Nathan Le.

Cosy Del’s

Cosy by name, cosy by reputation. This intimate Lathlain wine bar celebrates community with incredible food, chill vibes, and extraordinary vino. The neighbourhood “vinerià” features an ensemble of small and large share plates that champion Italian tradition whilst refusing to be restrained by it.

This truffle season Cosy Del’s is showcasing the finest Southern Forest finds with a mouth-watering truffle dinner on Thursday, August 1, Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3 (Saturday has sold out!), with five courses and an optional wine pairing.

North Street Store

North Street Store’s weeknight dinners are a reliable way to turn a bad day into a delicious one, and the arrival of truffle season into the mix can only make it even better! They post each night’s menu that day, with an always-changing roster of new and old favourites – and they’re adding fresh Manjimup truffle to the mix with dishes like a decadent mac and cheese or aromatic mushroom risotto.
