Subiaco is on a real roll these days. After a few too many empty shopfronts over the last couple of years, the area has been making up for lost time – with another new venue set to join the fray.

Shui – as in feng shui, not like shoey – will be taking over the old Funtastico site at 12 Rokeby Road, helmed by a couple of familiar hospitality faces: Benny Tua and Leigh Power.

There’s nary a bar in Perth that hasn’t had Benny Tua behind it. Playing a key role in well-loved venues like Mechanic’s Institute, Sweetwater Rooftop Bar, El Grotto and the Old Synagogue’s collection of bars (Tonic + Ginger, The Arbour, Mr Chapple and L’Chaim), he’s joining forces with 2022 WA Chef of the Year Leigh Power.

Power came to Perth after seven years at Melbourne’s Gingerboy. Heading up the kitchens at The Old Synagogue, the Beaufort and Sweetwater, his career has been marked by for his passion for bold, modern Asian flavours. The restaurant’s name was inspired by this balance of spicy, sour, sweet and salty – channelling the harmonious energy forces of feng shui.
