The Spirit Of WA: West Winds Finds A (Huge!) New Home In Cowaramup
Having reached soaring heights, award-winning WA distillery West Winds has set up shop in a huge new “Discovery Centre” in Cowaramup, only minutes away from Margaret River.
Set within a cluster of industrial-style warehouses, the new facility will be your one-stop-shop for everything West Winds – you’ll find both a distillery and tasting room as well as a restaurant, tavern and beer garden.
The new location will also serve as the distillery’s lab and production facility, ready to craft some tasty new concoctions, as well as cellar door.
“I started the business back in 2010 in East Victoria Park,” said West Winds’ founder and managing director Paul White. “We have been producing in the Margaret Region for a long time but we didn’t have a spiritual home, just a production facility.”

What this means is you’ll be able to stop in at the distillery and enjoy a flight sampling of gins, vodkas and whisky, then head next door for a signature cocktail and bite to eat from that share-friendly menu. Dive into a plate of charcuterie and cheese, nourishing salads or substantial eats like their Reuben and burger.
“At West Winds, the customer experience is everything,” says White. “We see ourselves as a customer adventure company that just happens to make award-winning premium spirits.”
“We decided to do the tavern as well as a way of showcasing the product… the town was crying for something like a tavern and the council had actually zoned this piece of land for just that. So now we have a real home, and this makes a huge difference from a branding perspective. It makes us very, very real.”
