After a successful inaugural event in 2019, YELLO Festival returns to the State Buildings from Thursday 8 October to Saturday 17 October, unleashing a swathe of exciting new activations to re-energise and revitalise the city this Spring. The 10-day program will deliver a plethora of events both free and ticketed, and according to Ali Bodycoat from the State Buidings you can “Expect a surprise at every turn with live activations, wine whimsies, food fancies and spontaneous art bursts.”

YELLO Begins

Join Dr. Richard Walley OAM as the festival is officially welcomed in at the YELLO opening party at the State Buildings. Margaret River artisans Vasse Felix unveil the grand reveal – Idée Fixe, a mysterious new sparkling project guaranteed to have your taste buds dancing… While two live jazz sets from Wilson’s Racket will get your feet dancing.

Lone Traveller

Close your eyes and be whisked away to a mystery destination for a never-seen-before cocktail experience hosted by globe-trotting bartender, Eoin Kenny and cheeky hawker of spice, Dee Tongdee. Embark on a journey to bustling Bangkok with six expertly crafted cocktails, alongside tongue-tingling Thai dishes and fascinating commentary from your knowledgeable guides.

Art Of Wine

Led owner/creator of WA label Brave New Wine Yoko Luscher-Mostert, the Wildflower rooftop will be home to a serious masterclass involving six deliciously intriguing wines which will become the inspiration for their own piece of art. The afternoon will be accompanied by canapés from Wildflower Head Chef, Matthew Sartori and a music playlist curated by Yoko to spark your creativity. Art supplies will be provided – simply bring your imagination and get ready to colour outside the lines…

Market Of Colours

Enter the visually alluring world of acclaimed musician and nationally-revered Western Australian artist, Morgan ‘Mojo’ Joanel, who will be bringing one of her captivating pieces to life in the Long Chim courtyard. The team will be shaking up epic cocktail specials from the pop-up bar and throwing out bowls of boat noodles for $10, all to the backdrop of tunes from Kester Sappho and DJ Alex. Joanel’s piece will be auctioned off at the end of the event, with all proceeds going to Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Art Song Dinner

Wildflower will mark the beginning of Kambarang – the season of birth and abundance, providing the perfect destination celebrating some of WA’s most talented creatives. For one night only, we welcome internationally acclaimed soprano, Amy Manford, who has recently returned from a two year starring role on the West End with Andrew Lloyd Weber. Manford will be complemented by the delightful sounds of acclaimed harpist, Yi-Yun Loei, while guests enjoy canapés, followed by a six course tasting menu curated for the evening by Wildflower mastermind, Matthew Sartori and matched with wines by Emma Farrelly.

From Pantera To Pavarotti

Join multi-award winning Director of Wine Emma Farrelly and WA vocalist Ali Bodycoat at the Wine Merchant for a wine masterclass featuring six distinctive drops with a melodic twist as they traverse the oddities that weave through music and wine.

Verdura

Post will be the home for a night of soulful cooking inspired by an ingredient rooted in the rural traditions of Italy – the vegetable. For one night only, you are invited to pull up a chair and eat as the Italians do, with Executive Chef Kim Brennan’s Spring vegetarian feast. Enjoy five courses capturing the essence of great Mediterranean cooking – fantastic produce served with stunning simplicity.

Valley Of The Stars

Two of Swan Valley’s finest, Vino Valta and Swan Valley Wines, encapsulate an exciting new wave of winemaking happening within the region – a movement dedicated to crafting expressive wines which celebrate the Valley’s unique heritage. Dive into these delicious wines and the fascinating stories behind them, as the Wine Merchant hosts Kristen and Garth McGann from Vino Volta and Paul Hoffman from Swan Valley Wines for a fun afternoon of tasting alongside DJ tunes.

YELLO Salon

The grand Postal Hall will be the scene of pure afternoon indulgence as iconic Australian fashion illustrator Pippa McManus joins you on a journey through an elegant afternoon tea menu, bursting with citrus delights from acclaimed pastry chef, Rika Shiina. Guests will have the opportunity to experience an interactive live sketching session with Pippa as she produces a collection of her signature charcoal drawings, complemented by the beautiful sounds of husband, Chris Foster on the grand piano.

Dolce e Giallo

Post Osteria & Bar is going ‘dolce e giallo’ this October: Served every evening during YELLO Festival, the Italian friends are pairing their zingy homemade Limoncello with a delightfully indulgent lemon and white chocolate
mousse sculptural dessert.

Big Book Stories

YELLO ain’t all about the big kids – YELLO’s official Commander of the Kids, Libby Hammer, is set to take interactive storytelling to the next level with big books, big balloons and even bigger characters in a theatrical, fruit-themed afternoon in The Mark. Tickets includes takeaway temporary tattoos, a cupcake and juice. BYO cushion.

Little People, Big Beats

Libby Hammer once again takes the reigns for the first ever State Buildings Silent Disco! The event will deliver two hours of bops, balloons and popcorn for the little ones…and a serene moment of silence for Mum and Dad!

‘80s Revival

What says vintage revival more than old-school craft brew classics mixed with WA’s favourite purveyors of party? Known for bringing back the ’80s with the very best of MOR soul, puffy-shirt Brit pop and a chunky block of Oz Rock for good measure, Oats Supply transport their tubular tunes to Beer Corner for one special Saturday night.

Joyful Jams With Fiona & Jon

After bringing the energy and sparking the vibes at the inaugural YELLO Festival, Fiona and Jon return to the Beer Corner for another round of joyful jams. Settle in for a Thursday evening session with 20 taps, beer bites and the sounds of Fiona Rea and Jon Edwards filling the air with good-time melodies.
