You’d be hard-pressed to think of a more perfect location to stage a Hansel & Gretel Opera than Perth’s iconic Supreme Court Gardens, and that’s just what’s happening on Saturday 22 February.

The City Of Perth is bringing German composer Engelbert Humperdinck’s timeless operatic take on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale to the gardens for a special free, immersive concert performance.

The West Australian Opera will be joined by by mezzo soprano, Ashlyn Tymms as Hansel and soprano Pia Harris as Gretel. Fiona Campbell plays the Witch and the children’s mother, Gertrude, while Kristin Bowtell plays Gertrude’s husband Peter, and Sara Macliver takes the roles of Sandman and the Dew Fairy

They’ll be backed by experienced conductor Chris van Tuinen, leading an Orchestra that will also feature the West Australian Young Voices in the children’s choir.

In addition to the wonderful sights and sounds already on offer, media artist Sohan Ariel Hayes will be transforming the park with an expertly crafted multimedia experience using projection, light and imagery to create an immersive night for the audience.

This is a free event taking over the Supreme Court Gardens from 8pm!

If all this wasn’t enough, fans of the opera who cannot make the show will be able to tune into the performance via livestream on Facebook, simply head to the West Australian Opera FACEBOOK PAGE on the evening. It will also be livestreamed to BHP Amphitheatre at Optus Stadium Park on the giant 142 square metre LED outdoor screen.
