Prepare Yourself Perth, The Summer Pop-Up Bars Are Coming
After a long, cold winter of course spent inside Perth’s bubbling brick-and-mortar restaurants and ice-cool bars, it’s quickly becoming that time of year where sun, drinking and dancing all combine in frivolous fashion.
For Perth that means one thing – pop-up season – and once again we have a smorgasbord to choose from. Some of them are bringing national and international artists to soundtrack your sundowners, others are rolling out the astroturf and palettes just for you and all your pals, each are bringing the good times.
Here are a few to keep an eye out for:
After a successful launch last summer, Kartel Bar will be returning to Elizabeth Quay once again for a few weeks over the Christmas period. From the team at Embargo and The Camfield, last summer saw plenty of sun-drenched, Mexican-inspired drinking and dancing. We’re still waiting on their official lineup announcement, although the legends at Habitat and Motif have announced their joint party, A Little Social… featuring Mat.Joe and Route94, on Sunday 15 December.
Freo’s favourite pop-up bar The Dock has announced dates for their 2019/20 season, once again taking over the iconic B-Shed Warehouse from December 13 until January 1. Their wharf-side beer garden is untouched for views, and they’ve ramped up their beer and wine selections, including a new minimal intervention wine list courtesy of Si Vintners. Did we mention they’re throwing a FREE New Year’s Eve party? Decisions decisions…
Ice Cream Factory
The Northbridge funhouse that is Ice Cream Factory has already started rolling out their show announcements for 2019/20, and it looks stacked! The BarPop crew are bringing over some incredible acts, from LDRU and Hook N Sling on their opening night party to The Jungle Giants, Bag Raiders, Peking Duk and Girl Talk, there’s legitimately something for everyone. Expect all the bells and whistles from previous years as it runs from December 13 to December 31.
Before Kartel moves into Elizabeth Quay, Sola Festival returns to take over the space on the first weekend of November, featuring three nights of huuuuuge party. Friday 1st sees RUSHMORE throwing Perth’s biggest Halloween Party with Godlands and ODD MOB on headline duties, before SNACK (Saturday 2nd) and Happy’s (Sunday 3rd) round out what’s shaping up to be one seriously long weekend.
A previous winner of Fringe World Festival’s best independent venue, Sunset Veranda will again take over Brighton Beach reserve in Scarborough. As if the strip wasn’t already poppin’ since all the redevelopment wrapped up there last summer, Sunset Veranda will be bringing the Fringe Festival vibes to the North with comedy, music, theatre, circus, cabaret and more.
Fringe World Festival
And of course, while it’s still a little ways off (January 17 to February 16 to be exact), the world-renowned Fringe World Festival will have pop-ups galore. Along with perennial fave the Woodside Pleasure Garden, there’ll no doubt be plenty of activations all over our great city, so keep an eye out for the program announcement which we reckon will be coming any day now…
