恭喜发财! Welcome in the Year Of The Water Rabbit (or Year Of The Water Cat, if you celebrate Tết Nguyên Đá!) with one of these festivities around Perth.

Perth Chinese New Year Fair

Organised by the historic Chung Wah Association, the annual Chinese New Year Fair can’t be missed. The huge event will take place on January 29, with stalls, entertainment and activities along James Street, Lake Street, Northbridge Piazza and Yagan Square. You’ll be able to feast on plenty of special Lunar New Year treats, plus there’ll be spectacular lion and dragon dances.

Head to the Metropol Lobby to catch the impressive, athletic lion dances on each of the select nights, as well as guzheng and dancing performances. Throughout the festival, there’ll be roving entertainment and prosperity mascots – or you can enjoy some specially curated Lunar New Year dining at Silks, Epicurean, Atrium or the Lobby Lounge. Karrinyup Shopping Centre

This Lunar New Year, Karrinyup will be home to WA’s only high poles performance on Sunday January 22. Two lions will leap along teeteringly high poles in the Centre Court, accompanied by a dance troupe and drummers. On Thursday February 2, following a performance in the West Deck, the lions will journey through the centre blessing each shop and spreading good luck and prosperity!

Forklore

One of our favourite eateries at any time of year, West Perth brunch spot Forklore will be dishing up a particularly delicious CNY special! The fabled White Rabbit croissant will return: a house made butter croissant, filled with a creamy White Rabbit custard, milk panna cotta, raspberry milk crumb and milky mascarpone.
