FLOCK Festival | STORIES OF HOME: First Nations Arts, Music and Food Gathering

STORIES OF HOME welcomes First Nations folks home on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar. With different paths treaded, both near and far, Lachy John, Koondarm Choir & MissGenius come together and showcase an eclectic night of excellent pop, rap & folk songwriting gold. With bushtucker grazing table prepared by Bindi Bindi Dreaming, and visual art and prints sold by ISLAND GHOUL (Tash Maeva) come and share in these stories together. Doors open at 6:30pm.

LACHY JOHN

Singer-songwriter from the Pilbara, Lachy John is a proud Nyoongar artist who writes soulful ditties and folky tales reflective of his life experiences and values. Influenced by some of Australia’s best musical story-tellers, Lachy John often uses themes of his Indigenous heritage, the beauty of culture and the social injustice faced by Indigenous peoples in his writing.

MISSGENIUS

MissGenius is a Maduwongga and Noongar woman whose music boasts deft flow, sharp lyrical danger, and meticulous beat selection. Previously a public speaker, mentor, and confidence coach for young indigenous women, she now uses her hip hop MC and soul vocals as another platform to broaden her impact by exploring complex themes which promote connection, strength, and peace.

KOONDARM CHOIR

Meaning ‘dream’ in Nyoongar, Koondarm is a vocal collective that celebrates cultures and healing through music, they are known as the ‘offspring choir’ to Madjitil Moorna due to a number of Koondarm members being raised through Madjitil Moorna. They welcome teenagers and young adults who wish to find a sense of community and cultural understanding with music as the foundation.

ISLAND GHOUL (TASH MAEVA)

Self taught artist by ISLAND GHOUL (Tash Maeva), originally from the Pilbara, moving to Perth late 2019 in hopes to create more and learn more in art and self. Style is inspired by neo expressionism and post vandalism; Basquiat being a major influence. Playing with elements of pop culture and social issues, with bold cartoon depictions and thought provoking texts. Creating busy pieces but having the centre focus in the middle to tie in the audience’s attention.

BINDI BINDI DREAMING

A 100% Aboriginal-owned and operated business which aims to increase the wider community’s knowledge about Noongar culture. Their yummy delights are infused with native herbs and spices, as well as products from Aboriginal businesses.

This event is part of FLOCK FESTIVAL, a 31 day showcase of WA Creativity & Culture in October 2022 in celebration of Pigeonhole’s 15th Anniversary. PIGEONHOLE is a retail store established in Perth in 2007 celebrating friendship and curating beautiful things that bring joy to you and those you love.
