German Film Festival
In collaboration with German Films, Palace presents the 2023 GERMAN FILM FESTIVAL with a stunning film lineup including key selections direct from the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival (The Berlinale), a music-themed retrospective, a focus on female filmmakers and the popular family sidebar Kino for Kids. The Festival opens with A THOUSAND LINES; an exciting drama based on true events staring Elyas M’Barek and Jonas Nay as journalists and is based on the real-life 2018 fake news scandal involving a disgraced Der Spiegel journalist.
The Festival centrepiece, direct from its Berlinale world premiere, is THE TEACHERS’ LOUNGE starring EU rising star Leonie Benesch. This tense drama centres on a dedicated, idealistic teacher who is pushed to the brink when she investigates a series of thefts at her new school. Two Special Presentations within the Festival programme include SISI & I; the wild interpretation of the “Sisi” myth set in the 19th Century and INGEBORG BACHMANN – JOURNEY INTO THE DESERT; a drama that shines a light on the remarkable and charismatic Austrian writer.
With over 30 films showcasing the best contemporary German cinema direct from major festivals in Europe, plus a selection from its German-speaking neighbours – Austria and Switzerland – this year’s German Film Festival is the biggest yet – running from 4 – 24 May at Palace Cinemas Raine Square, Luna Leederville and Luna on SX.
