Nicola Milan and her six-piece band, the Stray Cat Club, are bringing the swinging sounds of the 1920’s to life with their modern twist on the era’s music. On Thursday, May 11th, at 7pm, the group will take the stage at the Ellington Jazz Club, transporting audiences back to a time when cabarets were dark, martinis were dirty, and the women were deadly. Drawing influences from notorious characters throughout history, film noir, and parties straight from the Roaring Twenties, Nicola Milan’s music brings a fresh take to an era of frivolity and splendour. Likened to Caro Emerald crossed with The Cat Empire, Nicola’s silky vocals and original tunes will soon have you tapping your feet and swinging your hips.
Nicola has previously been recognized as a finalist in both the John Lennon International Songwriting Competition and the UK International Songwriting Competition. She is also a #1 USA charting jazz vocalist following the success of her two previous releases, “Little Rendezvous” (2011) and “Forbidden Moments” (2013). Her more recent releases range from the 1950s-inspired “Big House” to the jazz-trip hop mix “Things I Do To Get To You,” and she has amassed a dedicated following of over 100,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel @NicolasDiary. Nicola will be performing some brand-new originals with a stellar lineup of instrumentalists, including Ben Clarke on keys, Paul Millard on Sax, Steve Searle on Trumpet, Ryan Daunt on drums, and Dario Jiritano on bass. Together, they will bring the audience an unforgettable night of music, complete with the glamour and glitz of the Roaring Twenties.
