Each year, the Margaret River Wine Show awards a selection of the region’s wines with gold medals, and Liquid Gold at Fine Vines Festival is your opportunity to taste the top 40 wines from the 2023 show across one exploratory afternoon.

Enter the beautifully-refurbished Edwards Cellar Door, where the gold-medal winning producers will greet you with a tasting of their award-winning wines, representing the best in class from the 2023 show. Your knowledgeable host, respected wine writer and critic Angus Hughson, will set the scene for the afternoon’s tasting, providing insights from this year’s wine show and background on the process of awarding the wines, with light food provided. Angus is a respected wine critic in the international space, editor for VINOUS, has judged at numerous shows and competitions around Australia and is co-publisher on Andrew Caillard’s 3-volume account of the nation’s wine history, The Australian Ark, launching in November this year.

Those after a deeper understanding of Margaret River wine can join an intimate group for a masterclass exploring the region’s wines of provenance; an honour gifted to just one wine from the Margaret River Wine Show each year that displays great provenance and age-ability. The Wine of Provenance Trophy is awarded to the top performing set of three wines of the same label across three different vintages spanning eight years or more (for example a 2021, 2016 and 2013 vintage). You will taste three wines each from two previous Wine of Provenance Trophy winners, led by an experienced wine show judge and expert in Margaret River wine.

Please note that the tasting class begins one hour before both tasting sessions, 12pm for the 1pm session and 2:30pm for the 3:30pm session.
