Libraries are the heart and soul of the community – safe, communal spaces for the exchange of knowledge and ideas.

Arts and writers’ festivals are also safe, communal spaces for the exchange of knowledge and ideas.

So it makes sense to bring them together for Perth Festival 2024 Writers Weekend at the State Library of Western Australia. Because it’s one thing to read a book. It’s another to read a book in a library. It’s still another to listen to writers read from and discuss their books, and each other’s, in a library, together with fellow book lovers.

Surely there’s no better way to celebrate the work of wonderful writers, poets and illustrators? If friendly, relaxed panel discussions are your thing, you’ll love Saturday’s cosy Convergence program. If you’re looking for something with a bit more bite and frisson, Sunday’s Divergence program is for you.

There are also keynote in-conversations, live music performances, film screenings and a range of workshops on offer.
