A Friendly Reminder That Sculpture By The Sea Is Back This Friday
One of the biggest events on the Perth arts (and just general) calendar by far would have to be Sculpture By The Sea, which is just about to enter its 16th (!) year, returning to Cottesloe Beach from March 6-23.
Over the year’s it’s estimated to have attracted over 200,000 visitors, exploring one of Perth’s largest free events with incredible sculptures created by artists from all over the world.
This year the event will feature 70 sculptures courtesy of artists from 17 different countries, including award-winning Japanese artist Haruyuki Uchida, as the 2020 Tourism WA Invited International Artist.
His piece is shaping up to be one of the faves – a 7.5m long kinetic sculpture made from stainless steal and magnets, called ‘Merry Gate’.
Other artists who’ll be exhibiting include Karl-Christian Geleff (Denmark), Dave Glass (Portugal) and Vaclav Fiala (Czech Republic), joined by a host of national and local talent.
For those who require it, Sculpture By The Sea will be hosting three Beach Access Days from Tuesday 17-Thursday 19 March, which will see special matting installed on the sand to enable visitors with limited mobility better access to the full exhibition.
