The 2022 ST. ALi Italian Film Festival returns to Perth this Spring; presenting a programme of over 30 films at Palace Cinemas Raine Square, Luna Leederville, Luna on SX and Windsor Cinema from 22 September - 16 October. The pre-eminent event celebrates Italian culture and cinema and promises to transport viewers on a 'favoloso' escape to Italy. Opening with the Australian Premiere of Italian Box Office hit BELLI CIAO from popular comedy duo Pio and Amedeo, the Festival closes with the Oscar-winning trilogy of romantic comedies YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW starring Sophia Loren and Marcello Matroianni.
In between you'll find drama's, comedies and documentaries plus a retrospective honouring one of Italy's greatest filmmakers. Programme highlights include -
NOSTALGIA - about a man who returns to his hometown of Naples after 40-years and rediscovers the city's codes and rules, facing a past that haunts him;
LORD OF THE ANTS - which comes direct from premieres at major international festivals, this powerful drama is based on the 1968 trial of Aldo Braibanti, a Roman intellectual whose relationship with a younger student caused a nation-wide scandal;
THE HUMMINGBIRD - a star-studded ensemble drama following its main character from childhood to adulthood exploring the relationships that have criss-crossed his life;
ENNIO - THE MAESTRO - a documentary celebrating the life and legacy of the legendary Italian composer Ennio Morricone which features interviews with Oliver Stone, Quentin Tarantino, Bernardo Bertolucci and Hans Zimmer;
SALVATORE: SHOEMAKER OF DREAMS - a documentary charting the rise of the Italian shoemaker to the stars, fashion icon Salvatore Ferragamo
