102 Riverside Lane, Seville Grove

There are intricate Christmas window displays and then there is this Seville Grove spectacular. The moving winter village display which takes a whole front room in the house is a captivating miniature world which has to be seen to be believed. Outside at Lee Maxfield’s amazing Christmas house, you’ll find a complete lit up nativity set,  a singing and dancing Santa the kids will love, a snowman dome and a “Christmas Tree of Hope”, where you write on a bauble and add it to the tree. Each night from 7:40pm, a musical display kicks off and runs every 25 minutes up until 10pm. To top it off, the Maxfields’ display supports animal welfare as it has helped them raise funds for the Animal Protection Society for over a decade.

Sherlock Rise, Carramar

Ruth and Stuart Galt in Carramar believe that no one should miss out on experiencing the magic of Christmas lights, so they have a special sensory night on the 15th of December for children with autism and special needs. The lights are dimmer and don’t flash, the music is turned down and the experience is designed especially to be inclusive. The costumed characters on the sensory night are even people who work with children with special needs. Every other night the Galt’s display is still well worth a visit, featuring stunning lights and a range of Christmas characters.

Meadow Springs Drive, Meadow Springs

No Christmas lights list would be complete without the inclusion of the ultimate Christmas House in Meadow Springs. Mary and Alan work tirelessly on their interior and exterior display each year, drawing inspiration all year long and spending some 700-800 hours putting it all together (and then packing it all away after the festive season). Their display takes more than 700 boxes of decorations, 500 Christmas trees and 32 nativity sets. Well worth a visit to see for yourself why this house attracts busloads of visitors and has been voted in with landslide wins as the People’s Choice on the Synergy Xmas Lights Trail for the past two years.

Harrisdale Drive, Harrisdale

Musical lights more your jam? Genevieve Burrows’ house in Harrisdale features around 50,000 lights synched to music, a life size dancing Santa, a Christmas tree standing 6 metres tall and celebrates Christmas in Australia. Instead of reindeer and snow, you will find kangaroos and Australian music, along with dancing bells, a nativity scene with Star of David and angels on the roof. The curated list of music is now playing every evening from 7.15pm from 4 hours.

Narrien Loop, Hocking

If you are near Hocking and are looking for a few more well decorated Christmas houses in one go, take a visit to this street in Hocking where three neighbours pull out all the stops to give Christmas lights enthusiasts a dazzling display. On a visit to this neighbourhood, you’ll find Santa’s workshop with smoke coming out of the chimney and elves working away through the window, as well as a train track – and, of course, more lights than you can imagine.

Lights for Lifeline tree, Yagan Square

In the heart of the city, the Lights for Lifeline Christmas tree stands tall and is lit with more than 47,000 lights. Each light represents a West Australian who called 13 11 44 over the past 12 months. Not just beautiful to look at, it is worth a visit before exploring the rest of the lights in the city just to pause and reflect that, while Christmas is a magical time, for so many in or community it can be the hardest time of year. The tree symbolises lives saved and is about reminding people to reach out in challenging times.

Heron Close, Ballajura

Chad Godley’s lifelong obsession with Christmas lights continues as his house display gets bigger and better every year and supports Perth Children’s Hospital. At his Ballajura home this year, you’ll find an Aussie Christmas theme complete with lit up koalas, kangaroos, emus, crocodiles, lizards and snakes. He also has an impressive 6 metre tree, giant candy canes, a sleigh your whole family can get a photo in and a 3 metre tree where you can sign a bauble and leave your mark behind. The front rooms feature a miniature Christmas village as well as a “Santa’s lounge” where Mr Claus himself can be found taking a nap.

Hornibrook Rd, Dalyellup

Headed down south this December? A worthy stop off is Maries Vranjes’ popular home in Dalyellup. Over the years Marie has raised around $60,000 for Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation through her lights spectacular. This year Marie has transformed her garage into a winter and has been working on her display for the past four months.  The effort is worth it according to Marie who is about putting smiles on the kids’ faces, spreading the Christmas cheer and making amazing Christmas memories.

Collins Ct, Morley

Joe Sorguivanni aka Smokey has his creative masterpiece in Morley up and running for visitors from 7.40 – 10.30pm each night. Catch Santa on a motorbike amongst his beautiful curation of lights. A lot of time and effort from the family goes into his display which they do for their special needs daughter, five grandchildren, family, friends and the benefit of the whole community. They also raise money for Swan Friendship Club of WA, which is all about meaningful employment and community inclusion for people with disabilities.
