The Heritage of Bickley Valley Trail

Kick off your spring trail adventures with a wander through the Bickley Valley, where history meets nature. This 7km trail, nestled in the heart of Perth Hills, is a beautiful blend of heritage sites and untamed bushland. You’ll stroll past the oldest wooden bridge in Australia and the poignant Baby Grave site, all while being surrounded by a carpet of wildflowers in bloom.

Difficulty: Easy
Highlight: A walk back in time through WA’s history, with spring wildflowers adding pops of colour.


Yanchep Ghost House Trail

For something a little more adventurous, the 13km Yanchep Ghost House Trail is a must-do this spring. This loop trail takes you through eerie limestone ruins, across wetlands, and along boardwalks where you can spot koalas lazing in the treetops. It’s a great way to immerse yourself in Yanchep’s diverse ecosystems, with bursts of golden wattles and native orchids lighting up the path.

Gabbi Karniny Bidi, Rottnest Island/Wadjemup

Nothing says ‘spring escape’ like a day on Rottnest Island. The Gabbi Karniny Bidi, part of the island’s Wadjemup Bidi network, offers a stunning 9.7km journey through Rotto’s iconic salt lakes and coastal landscapes. This trail serves up panoramic views of the island’s best natural attractions, including sandy coves and turquoise waters that look even more magical against a backdrop of wildflowers.

Kings Park – Beyond the botanical gardens

Kings Park is an obvious choice, but it’s not just for tourists. The park beyond the botanical gardens is an orchid hunters dream in springtime, with incredible orchids to be discovered right in the heart of the city. The real magic of Kings Park really happens in spring when the botanical gardens are ablaze with colourful blooms.

Difficulty: Easy
Highlight: Spotting some of Western Australia’s hidden orchids right in the heart of Perth, and the scent of blooming wildflowers.


Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary

For a trail that’s truly off the beaten path, Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary is a hidden gem where conservation and adventure rub shoulders for an epic hike. This sanctuary, just an hour from Perth, blends a series of trails that take you through rugged terrain, towering granite outcrops, and sweeping valley views. Spring is when Paruna comes alive, with wildflower displays that are nothing short of spectacular. Just remember to book before you head out on the Australian Wildlife Conservancy website, as you will need a code to get in.

Araluen Botanic Park

Known for its famous tulip displays, Araluen Botanic Park is a springtime wonderland that feels like stepping into a fairy tale. Beyond the tulips, there are several walking trails to explore, surrounded by towering trees, and native bushland. For an extra hidden secrets approach to Araluen, you can join The Hike Collective for a guided tour, and head behind locked gates to truly explore the essence of Araluen Botanic Park.

Mundaring Weir to south Ledge Lookout, Bibbulmun Track

If you have never stepped foot onto the iconic Bibbulmun Track, maybe this spring is the time to try. The 1,000 km trail from Kalamunda to Albany is not for the faint hearted, but break it down into fun-sized chunks, and you are golden for a beautiful sunset stroll in the hills. Starting at Mundaring Weir means you also have a ready-to-go dinner local to celebrate your time on the trail post hike. This trail is fabulous in spring, and a great taster to hiking the iconic trail.

Difficulty: Beginner-friendly
Highlight: A taste of the iconic track, great vistas for sunset, and a convenient watering hole (pub) to conclude
