For years, Karijini’s rugged gravel roads posed a challenge for visitors, especially those in 2WD vehicles or towing caravans, which has changed thanks to the sealing of 41 kilometres of key roads throughout the park. The smooth bitumen roads now provide seamless access to major attractions like Weano, Hancock, Joffre, and Knox Gorges, as well as the popular Karijini Eco Retreat.
Gone are the days of navigating dusty, corrugated tracks, with visitors now able to enjoy a comfortable drive straight to iconic spots like the “spider walk,” Kermits Pool, and Joffre Falls. Notably, the notorious Banjima Drive North, a gravel road that once added extra travel time (and plenty of bumps), has been sealed, cutting 30 minutes off the trip between Karijini Eco Retreat and Dales Gorge.
Another highlight for 2025 is the brand-new lookout at Knox Gorge – this spectacular viewing platform offers panoramic 360-degree vistas down into the gorge, where you can marvel at the dramatic intersection of Knox and Wittenoom Gorges. For the best experience, visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the sunlight enhances the breathtaking scenery.
With these upgrades and the Karijini Eco Retreat’s restaurant and accommodations returning to full operations in March 2025, there’s never been a better time to explore one of the world’s most remarkable destinations.
Start planning your trip now and experience the magic of Karijini National Park in 2025, because the journey has never been smoother.
