Looking for your next hike? Get yourself to Nyaania Creek

How good is this weather at the moment? It makes you want to get outside and go for a hike, right?

Well, we’ve got a great loop hike trail for you to try – Nyaania Creek Reserve.

Located in Darlington it features a 2.4km trail that loops out and back, and along the way, you’ll see incredible waterfalls, rapids, and some stunning views.

It’s a 40-minute drive from Perth CBD, and the trailhead is easy to access by following Glen Road at the end of a scenic drive through the Perth Hills. The small car park at the end of Glen Road is the starting point, so plan ahead and try to avoid peak times.

Once you’re ready to go, walk through the gates, and your adventure begins.

As you set off, expect to encounter some of the wildflowers native to the area, which make this trail even more captivating during the spring months. The trail’s diversity ranges from granite outcrops covered in colourful flora to serene sections along the creek.

But it’s not without its challenges – this is not your average walk in the park. The trail can be steep, slippery, and muddy in places, particularly after rain. At one point, you’ll need to cross the creek, which adds a bit of adventure, but might be daunting for less experienced hikers.

It’s worth noting that the trail is loosely marked and can be difficult to follow, with several side paths that can lead you astray. Make sure to download the AllTrails app map beforehand, as it’s invaluable for navigating the route without getting lost. Keep your phone handy, as you’ll likely refer to it more than once to stay on track.

Given the tricky nature of the terrain and the lack of clear signage, we don’t recommend this hike for beginners. This trail is better suited to those with some experience who are looking for a bit of a challenge while enjoying the tranquillity of an unspoilt, lesser-known natural spot.

As with all visits to our natural spaces, adhere to the Leave No Trace Principles: don’t leave any rubbish, don’t pick wildflowers, and try your best to look after the surrounding area.

Take it slow, take in the environment, and enjoy the natural beauty as you hike.
