Is there a better way to spend a sunny day than to enjoy a hike through the Perth hills capped off with a cold pint at the pub?

Potentially. But the hike and pub combination has to be up there, and we have another belter for you to try out.

The Victoria Reservoir Walk Trail in Carmel is the hike in question, and it starts and finishes ideally close to the Masonmill and its fantastic beer garden.

Victoria Reservoir Walk Trail

It is a trail suited for all hiking abilities really, as the 6km track takes around two hours to complete with the highlight being of course the Victoria Dam which you cross right over. The trail starts at Korung Road, off Mason Mill Road and runs through the picturesque Korung National Park – this does mean though that dogs are not permitted.

You’ll come across so many historical sites on the walk and if you’re up for a little extra you can jump on the KattaMoorda Trail or the Mason & Bird Trail which intersect at different points.

Alright, now you’ve earned a pint – from the carpark, head up the hill slightly to the Masonmill and straight to the beer garden. From here, enjoy the views over the hills, grab a bite to eat from their extensive menu and chill out.

It is worth noting that the pub is opened from Thursday to Sunday, so keep that in mind when you’re planning your hike. There is also a fully licensed kiosk and mini golf course on site too, plus a very cute little Irish Village if a pint of the black stuff is more your speed.
