The Coastal Explorer bus returns this summer for all northern suburb coastal cruising needs
City of Joondalup and City of Stirling have announced the return of the Coastal Explorer bus, servicing the sunset strip over summer from January, 2025.
The open-top double decker bus offers locals and visitors a unique way to get to (and view) some of Perth’s most popular coastal destinations.
Starting in the CBD, the bus will travel to Scarborough Beach before making its way north past Trigg, North Beach, Watermans Bay, Marmion and Sorrento, before ending at Hillarys Boat Harbour. From there it’ll complete six hop-on, hop-off round trips per day between Scarborough and Hillarys, before returning to Perth.
“The City welcomes initiatives that boost our visitor economy and demonstrate why Joondalup is a great place to live, work and play, as the Coastal Explorer certainly does,” said Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob.
“The route takes in much of the city’s 17 kilometres of pristine coastline, allowing local residents and visitors to Perth the opportunity to have a swim or a relaxing day at one of our beautiful beaches or take in some of our wonderful cafes and restaurants.”

Tickets are valid all day, and can also include the return to Barrack Street Jetty later in the afternoon.
“This is a great example of two neighbouring local governments working together on an initiative that will benefit their communities,” Mayor Irwin said.
“The Coastal Explorer will connect our premier coastal destinations and draw more people to our local attractions and businesses,” added City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin. “We have a very special stretch of coastline between Scarborough and Hillarys, and this will give locals and visitors a special way of experiencing it.”
The Coastal Explorer service will start on Saturday 4 January, 2025.
