Seven museums across WA will be free entry from December 15 to March 31, including WA Museum Boola Bardip.

The free museum initiative is part of a $1.1 million program that will run from December 15, 2024 until March 31, 2025 – and includes general admission to all museums run by the State Government’s Western Australian Museum organisation.

Alongside WA Museum Boola Bardip, other museums that will be free entry include the WA Maritime Museum in Fremantle and Gwoonwardu Mia Gascoyne Aboriginal Heritage and Cultural Centre, while the WA Shipwreck Museum, Museum of the Great Southern, Museum of Geraldton and Museum of the Goldfields will remain free to enter.

While general admission is free, some exhibitions will still require paid tickets – such as the virtual reality experience “The Great Kimberley Wilderness” at WA Museum Boola Bardip, and The French Collection Film Festival at the WA Maritime Museum.

WA Museum Boola Bardip’s most recent special exhibition, “Spinifex People: Art and stories from Pila Nguru” will be included within the free entry – as will the museum’s eight permanent galleries, Otto the Blue Whale and a daily program of free tours, activities and events.

“Summer school holidays is a time when many families are looking for ways to entertain their children and young people, as well as their visitors from overseas,” said Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman.

“Providing free general admission to all our WA Museum sites affords the opportunity to everyone to explore the scale, diversity and the extraordinary stories of our State.”
