For those of us who treat fitness like a business, picking a workout studio is a serious matter. The location, instructors and even the vibe of a space can make or break your sweat session. At the end of the day we all just want a good workout – luckily there’s plenty of superb studios around Perth and here’s nine of ’em.

Bike Bar

We may not have world-famous spin studios like Peloton or SoulCycle in Australia, but thankfully Bike Bar has come to the rescue to fill that hole in the hearts of WA spin lovers.  New to spin? No worries. The studio provides towels, amenity-packed facilities and even free spin shoes. Just arrive a bit early and an instructor will give you a tour of the space, get you squared away on your bike, and share all the pro tips you need to leave feeling like a total boss.

The lights are dim, the music is pumping — it’s like a dance party while you cycle to the beat. Keep an eye on the timetable for special events like their legendary Pride Ride, or 80s, 90s, and disco-themed classes.

Tamara Yoga

Tamara Yoga is a popular studio with two locations in Claremont and Bibra Lake. Whatever your yoga style — you can find it here. There’s a range of classes from beginner yoga to yin, vinyasa and restorative yoga, just to name a few. There are even classes for kids, mums and bubs, and quickie 45-minute classes for those jam-packed days where you still need to de-stress.

If you want to go further into your practice, Tamara offers yoga retreats, sound baths, private instruction, meditations, workshops, and even a full teacher-training course.

go slō studio

Located in Fremantle, classes here are based on the Classical Pilates system — an exercise routine made to test stamina, build determination, and strengthen the body and mind. The philosophy at go slō is that you don’t have to be the strongest, fittest or most flexible to join. What’s unique about this Pilates studio is – as the name suggests – you can go as slow (or as fast) as you want.

Available equipment includes a full range of studio apparatus including the Reformer, Wunda Chair, Cadillac, Barrels and Mat. Classes are kept small in number so teachers can give you one-on-one attention.

Xtend Barre

Barre tends to get a reputation for being a gentle workout, but Xtend is a Barre studio that will make you sweat. With a slew of teachers that come from professional backgrounds in dance – Xtend offers a variety of classes, all of which are full-body workouts. Classes include Barre, Pilates, HIIT, and TRX workouts that move to a beat.

And with two locations in WA plus a first-class-is-free offer, there’s really no excuse not to give it a go.

Hurt Locker Boxing Gym

Boxing isn’t for everyone, but for anyone who’s ever wanted to try, Hurt Locker is for you. Located in Claremont, this studio has all the amenities you need — plus all the grit you’d want a
boxing studio to have. The gym is well-equipped with mid bags, heavy bags, floor to ceiling balls, speed balls, wall pads, free weights, and they even have a full boxing ring.

For beginners you can get set up with a complete starter pack that includes gloves, wraps and class packages. And for any advanced boxers out there, professional boxing coaches will help
you improve or perfect your boxing skills. If you’re ready to get in the ring, Hurt Locker will have you throwing jabs, hooks, and uppercuts like Rocky in no time.

S30

If redefining fitness means working out over shorter periods of time then we’re all about it and that’s exactly what Set 30 Studio (S30) did back in 2019 with specially-curated 45 minute sessions. S30 studios are committed to a safe space to work out in, one that eschews mirrors and weigh-ins in favour of supportive trainers and specific programming to help people learn to lift weights and build strength comfortably.

Its unique, nightclub-like setting with dark walls, atmospheric lighting, specially-curated playlists and regular DJs all combine for a distinctive experience every day of the week.
