Nestled between the river and the sea, 38A Pearse Street has been designed by luxe residential architect Ross McAndrew as his own family home, combining luxury finishes with sustainable design principles.
Just around the corner from some of our favourite North Freo haunts (Ooh Coffee, Mrs Brown Bar, Mojos), the exterior of the home is strikingly geometric; a starkly monochromatic form of contrasting white brick with black laser-cut screens and timber cladding – alongside the archetypically Freo limestone that faces Jackson Street, enclosing the courtyard of the separate apartment below.
Atop that flat roof, a solar panel array powers both the hot water and underfloor heating – with double-glazed windows, cross-flow ventilation and shielding from both the east and west to help maintain a comfortable temperature year-round.
Inside, the sleek approach continues: an open-plan living and kitchen layout seamlessly connects to the covered outdoor dining with a sea of bluestone floors, and a minimalistic white kitchen flows from the expansive, crisp white walls. At the kitchen’s centre, a vast granite island provides plenty of room for cooking or entertaining – although the covered outdoor dining’s built-in aircon and barbecue makes an enticing alternative.
With a laundry on the ground floor and an attic above for more storage, the remainder of the home can be dedicated to its three bedrooms. The primary suite, overlooking Jackson Street with a juliette balcony, also boasts its own built-in storage and walk-in robe, ensuite and substantial space for a study or your own private lounge.
