Plans have been lodged for a new social housing development in White Gum Valley, with community consultation on the submission now open.

Located at 1 Beazley Way, the development would face the lush greenery of Boyeembara Park – less than 3km from the Fremantle CBD.

Designed by local architects MJA Studio with landscape design by Josh Byrne & Associates, the currently vacant block would be transformed into a total of 24 homes, comprised of a combination of one and two bedroom units.

Described in the application as “social housing build-to-units”, the scale of homes in the development would address “70% of the housing waitlist demand.”

“They are designed to be easily maintained and have lower ongoing energy costs for low income occupants.”

Located on the former site of the Kim Beazley School, this marks the second lot in a larger WGV project aimed at “innovation through demonstration”, with the goal of creating a total of 80 new and diverse homes across 2.2 hectares since its inception in 2013.
