We talk about beautiful homes all the time here at Perth Is OK!, but were particularly tickled to see that this Broome Street home had hit the market – in fact, we had long admired it while venturing through Cottesloe for our post-swim North Street Store visits.

Named for its distinctive pitched roofline, Gabled House was designed by architect Michelle Orszaczky of Sydney-based studio Clayton Orszaczky. The home echoes the designer’s previous work, Barn House, with a silhouette that is both playful and austere, clad in rough-hewn cedar and New Guinea rosewood. Most strikingly, the form dramatically opens up with large sliding timber shuttered panels.

This simple silhouette is offset by the landscaping; ranging from enchanting corners to lush and tropical greenery, it was designed by William Dangar of acclaimed NSW studio Dangar Barin Smith.

While the exterior is shrouded in charcoal tones, inside is awash with bright white brick and drenched in sunlight – with wide corridors and high ceilings lending a sense of ease, as well as luxury.

Almost immediately, the space opens up into a light-filled kitchen, at the centre of which is a positively opulent six metre long island, topped with Carrara marble. Opposite, over the luxe Lacanche cooker, the backsplash is also tiled in matching Carrara.

Adjacent is the dining room, fit for lavish dinner parties or busy family breakfasts, while the neighbouring family room connects seamlessly with the garden via the huge sliding timber-clad doors.

While the home has the beachy, summery feeling that befits its coastal location – it’s got plenty of cosy corners for when the weather cools. The family room boasts an in-built Jetmaster fireplace, while the living room at the other end of the house is perfect for comfy movie nights at home.

Upstairs, the serene comfort continues – from the multiple baths to soak away the day in, or the primary suite’s balcony that looks to the ocean.
