Start counting your pennies and put down the avo toast: one of Perth’s most unique and luxurious homes has hit the market.

The price guide? Just a casual 31 to 35 million bucks.

Known as Duncraig House (don’t let that confuse you, it’s actually on Duncraig Road in Applecross), the home was originally built in the ’20s as nurses quarters for the neighbouring mental institution Point Heathcote Reception Centre – now the Goolugatup Heathcote arts precinct.

The home’s refurbishment has taken nearly two decades: divided into the three separate dwellings, the middle unit was originally bought before eventually acquiring the units on either side.

The huge restoration project was undertaken by Hocking Heritage + Architecture, with interiors by Leah Paige Designs and Gameface HQ, and landscape and garden design by Paul Bangay.

The home is currently owned by a vintage car collector and former racing driver. Unsurprisingly for a car enthusiast, beneath the home is a lavish undercroft 25-car garage complete with electric turning circle, gym, sauna, bar and DJ station. You’ll also find a luxe “wellness lounge” in the basement level, with sauna, steam room and Italian mosaic-tiled shower. We’re off to a great start!

Inside, a grand entry hall is panelled in rich jarrah, with elegant archways leading to the east and west wings of the home, and bookmatched Noir Saint Laurent marble flooring underfoot.

The home’s ground floor is devoted to work and play – from entertaining in the tasteful formal dining room and sitting area, lined with marble dado panelling and including a gas fireplace, bar and adjoining 1200-bottle wine cellar, or sprawling out for movie night in the plush home theatre.

Or perhaps you’re all business? For a home of this stature, only a library and custom-designed desk with views across the river will do.

Upstairs, you’ll find another more casual living area, as well as five of the home’s six bedrooms. (There’s also a self-contained guest suite downstairs.)

As with most of the ground floor, every bedroom opens directly onto the large wraparound balcony, with the northern face of the home enjoying stunning views across the Swan River.

As well as the stunning river view to the north, you’ll be looking out over the rambling lawns, infinity pool, 12-person spa and travertine-paved alfresco kitchen – complete with honed marble benches and woodfired pizza oven.
