Resolutely practical, yet resoundingly romantic: industrial gem Glick House has hit the market (and our hearts)!

Located on Leederville’s Tennyson Street, the home was originally created for celebrated Western Australian artist Rodney Glick by architects Geoff Warn and Jane Wetherall – now directors of With Studio, (formerly known as Donaldson Warn), with completion in early 1999.

Now heritage listed as an “award winning and striking example of Late Twentieth Century Functionalist style”, we’re struck by how well the design translates to contemporary design sensibilities, 25 years later.

Before we even think about heading inside, we’re going to mosey along the side of the home – along neat decking and through lush green foliage – until we find ourselves in the spectacular garden!

This garden is an absolute stunner, with timber decking winding its way through native landscaping and a heated steel plunge pool at its centre. At the easternmost end of the block, a separate insulated and airconditioned studio and double garage can be used as a yoga studio, workshop, office or retreat.

Within the main residence, much of the ground floor is dedicated to a multi-functional, open-plan space – part living room, part office, part theatre, potential party haven? With the kitchen located on the level above, it’s even got its own kitchenette for easy entertaining. (Can we also get the Amok Island artwork, pretty please?)

The ground level of Glick House is also home to two of the smaller bedrooms of the home’s five – not to mention that charmingly-industrial bathroom and a laundry decked out in the most perfect shade of cobalt blue.

That upstairs kitchen we mentioned? It’s also what we’d describe as charmingly industrial, merging utilitarian features like stainless steel workspaces and open shelving with a sense of rustic warmth. Doesn’t that dining table just call out for a rambunctious, wine-fuelled dinner party?

Through the servery we spy the living room: an eclectic, high-ceilinged space, its centrepiece has to be the bespoke cabinetry created by Perth designer Adam Cruickshank, inspired by the crisp, undulating lines of desert sand dunes.

On the other side of the living area you’ll find two bedrooms, the larger of the two the primary bedroom – but both adjoining the stylishly moody ensuite with cast concrete walls.

You might think this is all there is to see – but you’d be sorely mistaken! There’s yet another level of the home to discover, up those industrial stairs…

A stunning roof terrace, boasting sweeping 360 degree views of Leederville’s suburban surrounds and wide blue sky.
