It’s not often that a home hits the market that has such a significant role in Western Australia’s design landscape – but 12 Croydon Street is certainly one of them, on offer for the first time in 40 years.

Designed and built in 1983 by renowned architected Brian Klopper for his own family, the home features all of the hallmarks of the late architect’s most recognisable and well-loved works.

One of the most immediately recognisable has to be the abundant use of exposed recycled bricks. From the exterior to the interior, every wall in the home features the textural patchwork of creamy pinks, reds and terracottas.

As you approach the entryway, you also get a taste of another Klopper signature, with the front door set amongst floor to ceiling black steel framed windows – even more spectacularly featured surrounding the light-filled dining room.

The adjoining, rustic kitchen makes a feature of exposed jarrah beams, alongside expansive windows that overlook the garden and pool.

The bedrooms combine the impressive scale of the steel-framed windows with a more intimate scale of room. Even the parents’ retreat, the largest of the bedrooms and the only on the ground floor, includes a cosy study nook with a leafy outlook.

Three of the bedrooms on the upper level also feature a truly charming boxed window design, projecting over the side of the garden and showcasing the established trees surrounding the house.
