Live like royalty in this Mount Lawley castle!
We’ve often though we deserved to live like royalty… And finally the opportunity has arrived to do just that!
5/1 Thirlmere Road, Mount Lawley combines the convenience of inner-city living with the absolute drama of living in a castle – and not just any castle at that! A castle that was, in fact, a confectionary and chocolate factory!
This unique home has just hit the market, and we’ve had a peep inside thanks to Crib Creative.
Originally built in 1914, the castle was a manufacturing facility for Albany Bell Ltd, producing cakes, confectionaries and chocolates for the company’s 14 tearooms across WA.
Since then – and with a varied life as a World War II-era reserve building for The West Australian, a school established by the Royal W.A. Institute for the Blind, and WA Opera rehearsal space – the factory was converted into apartments.
Apartment number five is one of only two in the complex that includes one of the castle’s distinctive turrets – just imagine waking up under these windows!

This bedroom is one of two, with another larger bedroom and attached ensuite on the floor below.
The ground floor is a light-filled, open plan space with expansive windows and generously high ceilings, and a kitchen that has been thoughtfully updated – including those luxe stone bench tops.
