South West Stunners: Make Everyday A Long Weekend With A Move Down South
We yammer on about the big smoke so much, you’d almost think the city is all there is to WA – but there’s plenty of other areas to put down roots…
The South West is a favourite destination for local and international visitors, and for more than a few good reasons, including the stunning beaches, magical forests, delicious gourmet produce – and the world-class wines, of course!
Importantly, the Busselton Airport also keeps you connected, especially if you’re a young FIFO family with around eight flights to and from the Pilbara every day, along with flights directly linking the South West to Melbourne.
While most of us only get a taste of the South West for a long weekend or a mate’s wedding celebrations, have you ever thought about making the down south life a more permanent one?
We’ve teamed up with the homebuilders at Summit South West to have a look at the delightful down south region, and see where might be right for you:
Unwind and enjoy life at a slower speed with an acreage in Dardanup. Build your sprawling countryside dream home, and even foray into hobby farming with some furry or feathered friends – and plenty of room for adventures.
Less than 10 minutes from the beautiful Ferguson Valley, you’re surrounded by some of the South West’s best: whether you’re tackling the mountain biking trails in Wellington National Park or checking out the iconic Wellington Dam mural, drifting away an afternoon on the tranquil water of Honeymoon Pool (pictured below), exploring the picturesque trails of Crooked Brook or ticking off some of the 20 nearby wineries off your list! In the area, you’ll find over a dozen junior and senior schools that are a combination of public and private.
As if that all wasn’t enough, you’re also under 15 minutes from the region’s showstopper attraction: the Bunbury Farmers Market. Need we say more?!

Dunsborough? More like Fun-sborough! The coastal town balances all the best parts of the South West – idyllic surrounds, surfing, fishing and even better eating and drinking.
While the coast is covered in spectacular beaches, Eagle Bay and Meelup Beach are two of WA’s most stunning. Cast a line just about anywhere along Cape Naturaliste to catch your dinner, or stop in at one of the area’s next-level eateries – including the iconic Blue Manna, Yarri, Occy’s, Bungalow Social or stop in for a beverage and a snack at chic cocktail bar Lady Lola. Dunsborough boasts over 100 restaurants and wineries – so you’ll definitely have your pick!
If you want to get outside and explore, ancient, exquisite caves like Ngilgi provide plenty of wonder for little and big kids alike – it was even WA’s first ever tourist attraction.

While it’s a huge destination for visitors to WA, Busselton has managed to keep all of its quaint charm. Its 1.8 kilometre-long jetty may be famous, but the city’s community is as tight-knit as they come.
And while you may associate Busso with a slower, more low-key way of life, it’s actually known as WA’s events capital! Locals are treated to a chock-a-block calendar of sporting, arts and gourmet food and wine events year-round – from Ironman to CinefestOZ, Forrest Rally or Fine Vines.
While you’ll feel as if you’re a world away, Busselton is less than three hours’ drive from Perth, or a much shorter flight thanks to Busselton Airport.

We hardly need to convince you of the benefits of Margaret River, but let’s wax lyrical anyway!
Absolutely breathtaking beaches as far as the eye can see, wineries, restaurants and produce that are the envy of the world, spectacular surfing and forests that are as ancient as they are beautiful. What’s not to love?
