South West Stunners: Make Everyday A Long Weekend With A Move Down South

We yammer on about the big smoke so much, you’d almost think the city is all there is to WA – but there’s plenty of other areas to put down roots…

The South West is a favourite destination for local and international visitors, and for more than a few good reasons, including the stunning beaches, magical forests, delicious gourmet produce – and the world-class wines, of course!

Importantly, the Busselton Airport also keeps you connected, especially if you’re a young FIFO family with around eight flights to and from the Pilbara every day, along with flights directly linking the South West to Melbourne.

While most of us only get a taste of the South West for a long weekend or a mate’s wedding celebrations, have you ever thought about making the down south life a more permanent one?

Dardanup

While the coast is covered in spectacular beaches, Eagle Bay and Meelup Beach are two of WA’s most stunning. Cast a line just about anywhere along Cape Naturaliste to catch your dinner, or stop in at one of the area’s next-level eateries – including the iconic Blue Manna, Yarri, Occy’s, Bungalow Social or stop in for a beverage and a snack at chic cocktail bar Lady Lola. Dunsborough boasts over 100 restaurants and wineries – so you’ll definitely have your pick!

If you want to get outside and explore, ancient, exquisite caves like Ngilgi provide plenty of wonder for little and big kids alike – it was even WA’s first ever tourist attraction.

Busselton

While it’s a huge destination for visitors to WA, Busselton has managed to keep all of its quaint charm. Its 1.8 kilometre-long jetty may be famous, but the city’s community is as tight-knit as they come. 

And while you may associate Busso with a slower, more low-key way of life, it’s actually known as WA’s events capital! Locals are treated to a chock-a-block calendar of sporting, arts and gourmet food and wine events year-round – from Ironman to CinefestOZ, Forrest Rally or Fine Vines.

While you’ll feel as if you’re a world away, Busselton is less than three hours’ drive from Perth, or a much shorter flight thanks to Busselton Airport.
