As Perth Surf Park continues to gather steam ahead of breaking around early next year, developer Aventuur has announced a partnership with autism charity and Perth is OK! faves, Ocean Heroes.

The collaboration will support the delivery of autistic, neurodivergent and adaptive surfing programs in Western Australia, including experiences and events at the Perth Surf Park.

“At Ocean Heroes, we strive to make surfing accessible for the autistic and neurodiverse community,” enthused Ocean Heroes co-founder Luke Hallam at the announcement. “Our partnership with Aventuur and the Perth Surf Park is a game changer, expanding opportunities for the participants we serve.”

Hallam said WA’s surfing conditions are often impacted by poor conditions, be it swell, wind direction or general weather, which will be a thing of the past with the Perth Surf Park.

“By hosting our programs at the Perth Surf Park, we can provide the local autistic community with safe, inclusive, and supportive outdoor activities that promote physical activity and community engagement through surfing, no matter what the weather is doing,” he said.

As part of the collaboration, Ocean Heroes will support Aventuur during development of the$120 million park, including designing accessible amenities and developing “autistic, neurodivergent, and adaptive surfing experiences” in collaboration with Aventuur’s high-performance partner, Micro Surf Academy, and Surfing WA.

The two organisations will also work together in establishing an accessible division of Perth’s first inland boardriders club at the park, and work with State and National organisations to provide surf awareness instruction to school-aged children.

“Our partnership with Ocean Heroes embodies our commitment to making surfing more accessible, and to enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of all West Australians,” said Aventuur Chairman and Chief Development Officer, Andrew Ross.

“We are proud to support Luke, Sam, and the team’s meaningful efforts to enable people on the autism spectrum to experience the joys of surfing, while improving the quality of life of participants and their families.”

Located in Cockburn Central, the development is hoping to welcome up to 1 million visitors per year, offering high quality waves, high-performance training facilities and major events alongside leisure, hospitality and retail amenities.

Construction is expected to commence in early 2025 with an eye towards an early-2027 opening, find out more at aventuur.com.
