A new design for safer streets in North Perth has been completed and is now open for community feedback.

The Norfolk Neighbourhood Safe Active Street project will see a 1.7km route through Norfolk Street that is safer to walk and ride, as well as limiting traffic speeds to 30km/h.

The newly proposed route, which incorporates parts of Venn Street, Ethel Street, Throssell Street and Alma Road, will feature enhanced landscaping and clearly marked road signs.

It also forms part of the Long-Term Cycle Network (LTCN) and the City of Vincent Bike Network Plan 2023-2028.

It was back in 2022 that the City of Vincent began looking into ways to improve this part of North Perth’s roads after receiving Department of Transport funds to undertake a feasibility study.

From the community feedback at that time, it was clear that locals wanted straight one-lane passing and partial road closures but wanted to retain ample parking spaces where possible.

As well as that, the locals were not interested in more road humps or narrowing streets.

The City of Vincent has said that this design from PJA Consultants released this week, “included community preferences identified during earlier consultation”.

Now the City is seeking further feedback and once it has an understanding of what the local community think of the design, it will then seek funding to begin construction.

If you wish to provide comment on the design for the Norfolk Neighbourhood Safe Active Street you can do so by completing this survey online – Consultation closes at 4pm on November 4.
