Perth Fashion Club debuts runway and social event on rooftop of Art Gallery of WA

With Perth CBD as the backdrop, Perth’s fashion creatives and glitterati made their way to the Art Gallery of Western Australia.

Any other day and they might have stopped to see the art, but on the evening of February 15, guests made their way up to the roof where Perth Fashion Club’s runway event was about to kick off.

The first event since the inception of the new club, the social and runway event featured designs and accessories from two WA-born fashion labels, Kirrikin and Alf the Label.

Alongside the runway display, event goers were invited to enjoy a night of canapes, drinks and socialising with other like-minded lifestyle creatives.

The inception of the event and Perth Fashion Club is down to Perth made-to-measure fashion designer Chaynika.

With experience spanning over two decades in the fashion industry, Chaynika wanted to create a space for people to collaborate and connect with one another in Perth.

Without a primary fashion or lifestyle event in Perth (like a Melbourne Fashion Week), Chaynika began thinking of how she can bring something like that to Perth.

“The other alternative is to showcase our collection in the Eastern states, or we go international which is great,” she said.

“But in saying that the Perth industry suffers because there’s nothing here to bring the crowd to us…

“For me it was all about bringing people together.”

Despite the 40 degree weather forecast, people still filtered in to see the show.

To compliment the designers, there was a keynote speech from speaker Heidi Anderson and MC’d by Alexander Circosta.

As for the next event, Chaynika has already begun planning: “I’m really happy that it is coming together. In saying that the next event we are planning is…amazing…

“Brilliant venue, I’m just super excited it’s going to be absolutely brilliant.”

Perth Fashion Club is a members club – non-members can also purchase tickets to any upcoming events.
