Inspired by the Glebe and Fitzroy Markets, a huge new weekly market is coming to Sundays!
Whether its cost of living, a general disdain for chain supermarkets, or a desire to connect with our community, local markets are becoming increasingly popular around Perth.
And starting on Sunday 3 November, Perth Trading Post is looking to create the ultimate weekly market just outside of the CBD, in the lush surrounds of Moort-ak Waadiny/Wellington Square.
It’s the brain child of Meg and Stella, who’ve been operating vintage markets cross Australia and the UK for over five years, and currently host the popular Second Life Markets around town.
“We brought this concept to the City of Perth a year ago, after being inspired by the success of local weekly markets interstate such as Glebe Markets and Fitzroy Markets,” they tell us.
“Perth Trading Post is our newest initiative – a weekly Sunday market where anyone and everyone can come and trade & shop, big or small… ore than just a market – it is a vibrant community hub where locals can gather, share, and celebrate the best our region has to offer.”
The duo hope it becomes a place where you can not only do your weekly fresh produce shop from local farmers, but find some artisanal goods, vintage and preloved fashion, collect books, grab a Sunday feed or something more.
“Whether you’re searching for unique gems or soaking in the vibrant community spirit, this bustling market offers an unforgettable experience for families and friends of all ages, right in the heart of our beautiful city.”
Along with supporting buyers, it’s also an opportunity for young entrepreneurs to “potentially start things of their own and test the waters.”
In terms of what we can expect at Perth’s new one stop shop, they say: “We have put a lot of effort into curating the event, with stalls such as Wild Bakery, The Mushroom Guys, Stakehill Produce, Swan River Distillery, Cool Cats Vintage, Ningaloo Records and more.
“The rest of the stalls are still open and available to book weekly via our booking system online, where choosing your stalls location in the market is just like booking seats on a plane.”
“We want to see young families, students, teenagers, older members not only trade, but socialise, connect and build lasting relationships,” they continue. “We are wanting to create this one destination in Perth City, and reinstate the community feeling that anyone and everyone can be a part of!”
Perth Trading Post launches on November 3 from 8am-2pm and stallholders can still apply – head to perthtradingpost.com for more information.
